Way back in the 90s Jamberoo Recreation Park used to have grass-ski skateboards.

Someone thought it was a good idea to attach 4 small grass skis to a skateboard deck. Because the grass skis were so high the deck of the board was really high off the ground. They were really heavy and really fast as well.

They had a chair lift that took you to the top of a pretty intimidating grass hill. There you were free to launch yourself into whatever injury you liked.

Probably one of the scarier days of my life.

Not surprisingly, when we went back for another go a few months later they were no longer available.

Just think the govt went about it the wrong way..

If the whole reason of creating a the tax is to minimise usage due to the added cost, why compensate people so they can still afford to use if? It goes against the logic of minimising emissions.. Why not keep it expensive so people can't afford to use it, thus we emit less and the goals reached?

Personally i believe the govt if serious about the environment and not the financial repercussions, they should incentivise the top polluters that if they clean up their act by x%, they get a discount on company tax, payroll tax or whatever? Something to assist that company to become more productive for society (employment etc) - not just a fcuking cost..

Jesus fcuking Christ. It's not a tax on us, it's a charge on the (big) businesses that pollute. The intention being that they should be encouraged to find cleaner ways of carrying on their business practices. Any trickle down effect has been found for the most part to be pretty negligible & the govt has certainly put in place enough safeguards to ensure the vast majority of us are not unduly affected. A tripling of the tax-free threshold for starters. 9 out of 10 households receiving tax cuts &/or payments to offset any price rises. Sounds like it's going to have less effect on me than the GST did. So how about we wait & see if there is any effect, positive or negative before we carry on bleating like a bunch of sheep taking our info from the likes of Tony Abbott & Alan fcuking Jones.

That photo makes a very strong case for a kind of Bladerunner cull of anyone over the age of 60.

it's a very scary photo.....but impressive.

I reckon Bronny would've whipped up enough frenzy in the old folk to bring on a few heart attacks & strokes. That might be enough in itself to cull the herd.

Good letter in today's Age about the effect of the tax on the average punter. I'll paraphrase for my own circumstances:

Cost to me will (probably) be about $200 per year. By taking most of the appliances in my house off stand-by I'll save about (you guessed it) $200 per year.

So I'm no worse off, and the planet goes without whatever that amount of carbon being released is.

*And before you argue that I could just do that anyway and save $200... The answer is I just wouldn't do it. I need the incentive. I now have that incentive.

About a year ago, a young man named Michael Koziol (I think he'd just finished the HSC and was in uni) wrote a hilarious column in the SMH, in which he baldly suggested that older people should pretty much exclude themselves from the climate change debate.

The gist of it being, you have no skin in the game, so shut up.

It was Gold.

Not enough young smart people tell old dumb people to shut the fcuk up.

I have thought exactly that.
Its just not fair that we are subjected to their endless mindless slogans and catch phrases without a more direct response than the ballot box.

I believe in global warming, but Im no fan of the carbon tax purely because I can't see it having any impact on global warming whatsoever v the economic impact on Australian buisness and consumers . But I am enjoying the bonus entertainment value just by seeing old crnt face Jones getting his sphinkter in a spasm over it :D .
