Na, Cathedral 6 foot, got 3 waves 8 guys burn't me, just had a quick one had to work. Bells is too far too crowded, grew up surfing it but not my cup of tea anymore. It would have been 10 times better at bells than where I surfed, though a few guys I spoke to didn't rate it(bells) highly, But having said that there is no better wave than bells/winki and EVERYBODY should surf there :) as every where else is sh#t. The highlight of me day was me new board felt good. :D

Hi crust
crustt wrote:Was lumpy, side/on shore and the whole coast was crowded out, swell forecasts are generally glass half full for the surf coast, to get people down to spend there money in torquay, and that has been the case years before the internet was invented.
With a forecast of a peak in swell around 8-10ft early Saturday backing off to 6-8ft and also early W'ly winds tending fresh SW, it seems pretty spot on.

It was probably more around 8ft early, but I never forecast for conditions to be perfectly lined up and clean. More so the general synoptic SW flow will be overridden early with a W'ly which would make for lumpy conditions.

Same occurred around Victor, although conditions were cleaner with a more W/NW wind. Swell was more 6-8ft there, just under my forecast 8ft+.

Glass half full I beg to differ.

Oh and I'll go out there and say that the Bells comp will receive plenty of swell this year as another node of the Long Wave Trough moves in just in time. Have a quick read here if you're interested in learning more :)

Best waves I got for the swell was yesterday and it was just 4ft beachies. Solid though and heaps of fun. Saturday over here had too much sth in the wind. Some mates surfed a staple for those conditions on Saturday, but it gets so crowded I usually give it a miss

From my inexperienced eye (for south of the continent), the first few days of the waiting period look to have too much W/SW in the swell to make a big impact on the swell getting into Bells?? So I'm assuming we're gonna be waiting until later in the waiting period for when the LWT trough moves that touch more east, Craig?

Doesn't matter what the waves are like for bells, cause it always looks good on the T.V. Don't know how many times I've watched the 6 o'clock news and it looks so much fun, but you know the reality is it's lumpy fat crap, is it much the same case with the comp up a snapper?

I reckon it's more of the reverse Crustt.

Onshore, bumpy, scrappy Pointbreak over sand can look pretty second hand on the webby, but it's a shitload of fun to surf.

Especially in warm water in boardies.

Steve. Are you racist towards 4/5 steamers and ice cream headaches upon paddling out?

Pfffft. Warm water

Surfing without a wetsuit, that is sooo unnatural.

Agreed. I feel naked without wearing one. Surfed in boardies once. Didn't like it.

Mornington Peninsula got a fair whack of swell over the weekend too I might add. Lumpy and a bit over the place but Saturday with the W wind ensured Westernport Bay reefs were firing - albeit not on all cylinders.

Not often you get big days like that out there, great fun

Waves always seem to look good from slightly above. The number of times I've driven around to Tama and gone wooohooo look at that only to see its pretty ordinary from straight on. Greenmount hill is another spot that does that.

Preferring a wetty and cold water to warm water and boardies is like saying you'd rather fcuk a super model wearing a rain coat and sock on your ckock instead of barebacking it.

There's no comparison.

Warm water just feels so much better and it's so much easier to surf better in it.

I couldn't agree more Steve and this is why I never look at OS surfari's that are cold water destinations.

If i had a sheepstation handy I'd bet it in a heartbeat on the fact that far, far more people wanted to get out of cold water to go surf somewhere warm than the reverse.

IN saying that,I'm heading from here surfing in boardies down to Bells next week.

Now, where'd me freaking steamer go.......gathering cobwebs somwhere.

Hope it pumps for Easter and just keeps on pumping, Like it used too, The last time we had a month of straight waves between 4 & 10 foot in Vicco was May 2000, used to be a given 20+ years ago. So I'll be happy to take it Easter crowds and all, as long as it's clean.

Probably one of things that puts you guys off the cold is you never have a good wetsuit when you venture down south, which is understandable as your not going to shell out top dollar for a you beaut wettie for a couple of weeks.
I love me booties
