What sort of deck traction are you using on them?

My kids started getting into the 6' Grommy softboard I bought them last year. They were just riding on their stomachs. My daughter was doing fine, but my son couldn't not nose dive. I tried many techniques with him, but there's only so far back on a board you can lie before it's a tombstone. It has virtually no rocker. Any tips?
lie further forward and paddle harder

its not the nose that is diving, its the tail being picked up. Because the wave is hitting the tail too fast relative to the speed the board is moving at. Moving back slows the board down (just as it does when you are standing). You might need to give him a push or a bigger board. Or make him do some pull ups...

Yeah, when I push him in, it's fine. I reckon softboards probably aren't for bellyboarding and that's part of the problem.

In all honesty they use a lot of wax.
Apparently there is bodyboard-specific wax that is better.

I started my son standing on a boogie board on the shore holding my hand when he was tiny. As the wave would wash in it would lift the lid up and we would skim board it around. Got him an old crappy foamy at throw out. He never looked back. Daughter had lessons. Can stand up but has always prefered to float around with her friends and chat.

I tried a mates 7'0 CMP softboard at the point a couple of months back. Thick as, but loads of fun. Just over 200 $$, with a slick bottom. Went well. Seen Ace Buchan around on those Catch Boards too - of course he made it look the goods.

Ah, if he is bellyboarding then perhaps it’s different-maybe he just needs a bodyboard?
