Apparently the Chinese bloke who bought SAAB is going to relaunch it sometime in the next year. They still have 100+ engineers working and the painting plant is running to avoid the costs of shutting down and restarting.

I reckon, not to mention the lay-offs that will start to happen in the component suppliers to Ford in the area as well.Animal_Chin wrote:Geelong is farked.
Barwon Water also announced mass redundancy's this morning.
More blokes in the water mid-week I guess...
Damn shame about the Falcon

Say goodbye to the Territory as well. It's a Falcon underneath.

Do you reckon current/recent model Falcons will become classics one day?

Hadn't bought a ford since I grew up riding around in falcons. Really liked the looks of the BA and the new engine sounded good. The second hand one I bought was up there with the worst cars I have ever owned and definitely the most expensive. The manager of the place I got it serviced called it the voodoo car and I don't live near Cronulla.eel wrote:Do you reckon current/recent model Falcons will become classics one day?
Shame all these companies are packing up and sacking workers just before the election. Hope they aren't planning to start up again and have a workforce on new contracts directly after the election.
Surely they wouldn't do that would they?

Yeah. I mean since we are the poster girls for tariff free open market trading and one of if not the most expensive places to produce goods in the world then I'm sure we can blame the government for not bailing us out. Why doesn't Queen Gina invest in Australian Manufacturing?

If I was to add up all the fcuks I don't give about there never being another falcon, it'd come pretty close to 1.1 billion.

What happened to your short list of areas the fed gov should be involved in?
propping up American owned auto manufacturers making big boring cars nobody wants wasn't on the list, if I recall.

They will probably suck up the remaining government dosh while paying the workers peanuts then sack the lot of them. Worked for the banks in the USA.
