Coastalwatch webcam upgrade to Flash

Post by ajohnsen » Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:34 pm

Anyone having a problem with the webcam pages that now use Flash to stream the video? In particular, Maroubra. I cannot get it to load. The wheel spins but nothing eventuates. I have the latest Flash installed. Have tried three browsers - Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I use a Macbook.

Anyone?

U need to upgrade to the latest Flash working version,
(http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ )
go to the flash websitedownload and install the plugin (should be 10. something),
remember to restart the browser after the install is done.

If u use more than one browser u have to repeat for each one,

in any case it takes a while before start to stream the webcam...was better before.

me too, and it was not working,
then i reinstalled once again and it worked,
but still, takes very long to start streaming.

Sometimes it is required to get rid of the old flash&setting from the directory \folder
in order to have the new version working properly.

did u try clean temp files and cookies ? sometimes it works too.

Uninstalled Flash and then reinstalled - no luck.

It's weird, because it works on my computer at work which has older version of everything. It's also a Mac.

Fuggin technology.

Got it!

Went into Flash settings and, under the Display tab, unchecked the Enable hardware acceleration checkbox.

I can't get any of their cams to work on my computer. I've downloaded the latest flash with no luck.

How do I get into Adobe settings to uncheck the Enable hardware acceleration checkbox?

Load up the page even though you'll only get the big black box. Then right click and select settings - not global settings. At the bottom of the box you'll see 5 tabs - the first is the display tab. You should see the Enable hardware acceleration checkbox - uncheck it.

You won't find the settings unless you are right clicking on a Flash bit of a page, if that makes sense.

Thanks ajohnsen, I've got a few more of them working since I did that, but there's still something shotty going on. Not sure if it's at my end or theirs, but they are loading really slow. And some of the sunny coast ones have "sorry, video not available" which I'm guessing is a problem at their end.

they are quite slower than before,
plus not using hardware acceleration it's up on how powerful ur processor is,
basically now watching a webcam is quite heavy task for ur comp\browser
try to not have too many tabs and apps open and use only one flash website at a time
try to restart ur browser if it feels too slow.

Okay, so all the cams that use Flash player have stopped working on my computers at work and at home. The Silverlight ones still work fine.

I don't know what the fcuk they do, but every now and again they screw it all up. And they rarely answer emails.

Anyone? Ideas?
