sorry Nick its just that I am trying to determine which reviewers were paid for by the board manufacturers so I know which review I can or cant trust.

And have any of the test riders had sexual relations with any of the surfboard makers.

Tragically none of the reviewers are paid by or have had sex with any of the board makers involved.

it's the boardmakers who pay to appear in the board bible with an implied expectation of a positive review.
the test pilots get the trip paid for.
No bad feelings there, it's just the way things work.

Let's honestly take this to the logical conclusion. The surfers aren't lying in giving positive feedback about the boards. They are mostly high performance craft ridden by elite surfers. It's what the market aspires to. If I'm not at that level well I'm the fcuken scuker for buying a board not suited to my abilities. Should the buying public consult any of the manufacturers, the lesser talents will be given great guidance into varyingly different directions (if they're honest). Shapers aren't cnuts, they are (mostly) the fcuken saints of surfing

Does that include launching yourself over the back of a wave as it closes out and landing on your back in the trough

A review where the outcome is bought and paid for in advance by the subject of the said review is not a review, it's an ad.
Nothing inherently wrong with that, it's how the capitalist world rolls. In a perfect world it would be written on the tin.
I know Nick is proud of it, and of course he should be: he gets a free trip to Indo out of it every year and the board manufacturers involved get a much needed fillip in sales coming into the crucial summer period.
To be angry about that is pissing in the wind.

It's because of Nick Carroll that I started surfing. This guy has been a hero of mine for years, I looked up to everything that he represented - hope, freedom, a gladiator spirit in the coliseum of the ocean.
To find out your hero is a fraud. Well it cuts pretty deep.

believing a shaper is akin to following a religion.
both require blind faith with absolutely no accountability for non performance

So presumably you would have like Prod, Catholic factions. Then the various sub groups like Methodists, Presso, C of E, Lutheran. Then the Holly Rollers who handle snakes and talk in tongues. Then the Fanatical Evangelicals. Then really esoteric mystical sects and presumably Heretics. Then there's Lid Riders, SUP users and Goat Boaters.

Maybe ... but he's definitely
retarred the tard, and is once again firming as a major stakeholder in the final equation.

I dunno if pride is the word, what I think is that it's a practical way for me to find out a lot about a range of current boards, fins, the surfboard business etc and hopefully transmit a fair bit of that info to readers. Do one of these a year for over a decade and you really build up a strong long term picture of an industry that's right at the core of the sport.
Plus yes it is a great reason to go surfing for a couple of weeks, like what surfer in his or her right mind would knock back the chance to go surfing in good waves with a bunch of boards all made by different people? fcuken hell.
Enormously fortunate position for me to be in, then again that's why I answer people's questions here, it's a way of saying thanks, a weird way no doubt.
I do think that you can conduct these tests with intelligence, a good heart and a fair bit of surfing integrity.

with roy stewart's recent windfall I expect to see a review of the 18 foot ghost voyager, he'd be a fool not to double down on his marketing strategy
