Yeah I'm just mucking around with the idea really, it might just be an article rather than a book, but I do find that if you're thinking and doing something a lot, it usually provides the material for good writing.fongss wrote:Nick....id suggest think s bit longer about the coaching book
Its natural after the t.c book u want push outwards
That was a big game plan letting everyone in
Im just saying settle for a little. ...do something for pure fun
a fiction novel
Get a alias on real surf and argue with yourself
We all feel we need sux it up and move on
Well we dont have too.. we can take as much time off as we need be stupid and human
And honestly. ... I think u have a lot more in u as a writer than a coaching book
That goes for all us
I sorta feel the adoption of online aliases leads to awful retardation, sort of a weird spiral into your own head that's pretty unedifying to anyone unfortunate enough to be a witness to the debacle, so will be avoiding that with little effort in the future.

I propose that anyone using multiple aliases is automatically nominated for TOTY .Nick Carroll wrote:Yeah I'm just mucking around with the idea really, it might just be an article rather than a book, but I do find that if you're thinking and doing something a lot, it usually provides the material for good writing.fongss wrote:Nick....id suggest think s bit longer about the coaching book

Hi Nick,
What's your opinion/experience on asymmetrical boards?
Should you just alter the rails or do you need to different halves of a board for example one half thruster the other a quad set up?
Thank you

Nick. Surfers don't need hamstrings. True or False?

You've got to have an idea of what you want from the asymmetry before embarking on it.
Before machine cutting many boards were asymmetric by accident, just go to any surf museum and have a close look.
My experience of deliberate asymmetry is mostly limited to a period around the late 80s when AB got into the idea, he started with the outline, matching a shorter pintail outline on the forehand side with a longer swallowtail outline on the backside. About three to four inches difference. His thought was that the heel side could handle more because you put more weight on that side, whereas the frontside was all about the toes and more conducive to sensitivity.
Some of the boards were pretty fcuken good and the effect was very much as Al had intended but it didn't really cause you to surf any better, just a bit different, and after the novelty wore off and it all began to feel too complicated, we just sorta let it go.
To me there's enough variation in waves, adding asymmetry is just making an already complex thing even more complex to little purpose, but for mucking around, why not.
I surf now with front fins set a bit asymmetrically, the backside fin about 1/4" further back than the frontside, it's a subtle but distinct difference, mainly in freedom off the top frontside with a very slightly shorter turning arc, not on every board though.

Re: Ask Carroll
Where? Here in Australia? I dead set don't know why it's still illegal. It seems to be tolerated across broad swathes of the population, it's been in constant use for 50 years, and it's ridiculously easy to get hold of. Its illegality seems to exist in name only other than an occasional bust by the cops of some gormless teenagers in a beach car park on a Friday night. Its illegal status seems to be more of a habit than anything. As mentioned elsewhere I do think it would be a bad idea if it were to become a source of revenue for governments though.

Re: Ask Carroll
Ironically its illegality means the huge section of the adult population and pollies in particular who have used it tend to shut up in case the minority zealots beat them over the head with it as an issue. I'm looking at you Cory.
So Nick, peaked caps worn with the ears tucked in?

Peaked caps worn never.

Someone will dutifully find a photo of you in a peaked cap. Suppose it's not really relevant
