Ma & Pa Bendall Comp

Post by Trev » Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:03 pm

This is my third effort to post these pics.
And it tells me I can only post a maximum of three - that'll upset things.

I have reloaded thes. Not sure why one has duplicated but I think the system will be better than going through photobucket once I'm comfortable with the steps.

Haven't been there all day.
Still trying to get the pic sizes right so I'll repost these when I get them a bit bigger.
They'll probably have results in tomorrow's paper. I'll check and report back.

Besides I only had an hour and a half before they turfed me out of the surf.

Did they move it later when the NE'er blew up Trev, or just stay at Moffs? Imagine Kings woulda had some fun waves.

Nah. It never really got strong down here. I don't know what time they finished but some of my mates say they surfed late yesterday afternoon in pretty good surf despite the N-Easter

Jeez no disrespect to Ma and pa Bendall but hasn't Hedgey slipped down the totem pole quickly.
What the fark happened there?
Guy looked like he could be top ten in his sleep.

Your totally right Mark, but while the rest of the 44 were getting shacked off their nut at SpotX/Big Groyne , Hedgey is getting a wildcard into a contest that is 20 years past it's prime.
The question remains: what happened ?

he tried to requalify but didnt so now probably just surfin smaller comps and doin trips and basically whatever the sponsors want to keep them happy and still paying him ??? I always liked his powerful carving style and being a fellow goofy, wanted him to do well...oh well, he had a few good years on the tour and is gettin paid to surf...luckier than most I guess..He was also selling some of his boards a few weeks back on e-bay....maybe needs a few bucks...wonder what the Ma and Pa bendall paid for first prize ??? 8)

He said in the paper, he was hoping to requalify this year (is there a WQS event in Tassie shortly?)
He was up here on holidays with family (he comes from here, apparently) and was persuaded to lodge an entry in the off chance there'd be a vacancy, and there was.

Actually as far as I know Hedgey is from Narrabeen.
I heard from a reliable source (and someone please correct me if this is BS) that Hedgey had been dropped like a sack of Shitt by his long time sponsor.
That he is living with his folks on the Goldy and really doing it tough.
How the hell does this happen?
This is a serious issue for the ASP; guys who are top ten one year and then just out in the cold the next.
Kieren Perrow, Trent Munro, Phil Macca, etcetc.
Then the wave of guys who qualify and last one year ie Dan Ross, Josh Kerr, etc etc. making zero impact.
You can't tell me a guy can be a top ten surfer one year and then the next just back in the scrapheap not able to play in first grade.
Big calls go down that really affect a whole career, day in day out.
Judging is still the elephant in the room for the ASP.
Pro surfers are like trained seals, they live and die like box office tickets.
The ASP is in danger of becoming a sport without a narrative, especially after Kelly gets ten and walks.
Without a credible showing from Parko, Fanning, Jordy and Dane this year then the ASP is seriously losing credibility.
The current 45 is looking the weakest for years, Slater must be laughing.
He could go for a dozen.
