Hmmm, let's see. Hit the trail on the day after Boxing Day and have since surfed Crescent, Angourie twice, Burleigh twice, Currumbin, Snapper and Saltwater. Back home and ready for a rest.

Reef at 3-4 ft. Plenty of waves coming thru but the sets were sparse. Residual south east swell was more prominent than the long period south swell.

Overall, too much east in the swell, causing a lot of the waves to warble and break wide and short. most waves were missing the full racetrack run along the shelf into the point.

Still got a few fun ones. Best one was a three footer that ran right through, nice round face on it, allowing about six or so turns.

No barrels. either got held up and sucked over the falls, or ended up getting faded too deep then going straight with the section shutting down.

Surf's been cracking here in Puerto Rico boys.
Seven feet at 13 seconds. Slated to come up to nine at 15...

Surfed Jobos today, Maria's and Surfers yesterday, Wilderness the day before that, Middles before that.
Middles is very good Coops.
Going to Arecibo tomoz.

Great waves, beautiful scenery but, fcuk, it's crowded.
Way too cheap and easy to get over here from the states.
Literally have to scrap and fight for every wave.

So say the buoys and I copped plenty of strife from more than a few of the menacing olas. What's 1 and a half to double overhead on the Iggy scale? I don't wanna surf the nine at 15 unless. ....
When it comes up again (Tuesday) I'll probably head down past Tres Palmas, I'm no Garrett McNamara.

One and a half to double overhead is four to six foot in Aussie terms . Except for beanpole

Correct. On the Bean Scale* 4 to 6 would be just under shoulder height to just overhead. Oddly similar to the actual size of the wave.

*Patent Pending.

I'm envious. Jobos was the only break working when I was there. No need to take off behind the rocks then.

Closer to home, the report today said 3-5 ft south where I was at but it was barely shoulder high.

As would 95% of Australian Surfers before about 1984. Iggys used to be called the Hawaiian Scale. A while since this old chestnut has been rechewed.

Who cares how it was measured before 1984. The nostalgia is meaningless. It's 2016 I believe

All those wave scales, what a laugh.
The funny thing is, if you ask someone to explain their wave scale, they always explain their scale in terms of the actual face height (i.e. in imperial feet or number of overheads).
That means, everyone actually knows that face height is the best system to communicate wave height.

I agree foamy. Not really nostalgia when your wave scale bears little similarity to any actual measurable size scale. That's why I thought everyone agreed to go with head high etc. the usual argument for it is that it's just the way it's always been. It hasn't.

The problem with that is for the wave size that occurs 90% of the time (less than one and a half to double overhead) you only have 1', 2' or 3' to indicate the size of the waves.

I'm gonna report Hatchy to the relevant authority for wanton abuse of the Imperial measurement standards
