Nice little peak amongst the backpackers, learners, SUP and others (who all drifted north of it).

I had the strangest surf just then.

Checked Tallows on my way back from the airport and it looked fun in the corner; punchy lefts breaking into the rip. A dozen or so people out, maybe 20 along the whole beach.
Went back to the industrial estate to grab a board and came back. Ready to ride this little Slater Cymatic for the first time.

I got onto the beach and I could see no-one in the water. No one.

The lefts were still breaking in the corner, punchy little things sometimes winding in on themselves. Light NW wind, perfect for the spot.

Empty. It was surreal. I craned my head and looked up the lighthouse, I couldn't see any tourists lollygagging.

Something must have happened ,,,,shark attack or suicide bomber.

So I went out and grabbed a few lefts, then a few more.
Only one way to test this, I thought. So I stripped off and went back out and surfed naked.
No one came.

The session ended as the day started to wind down. I went over the handlebars on a dredge out and wading into the beach with the sun in my eyes I could not see the board.....no legrope.
By the time I got into the beach, the board was halfway out in the rip and going around Cape Byron by the time I swam out to it. That didn't feel nice.

I could barely get to my feet on the board.

about 30 minutes....a little bit.

I just thought it would make something happen....but nothing did.

I passed a stoned dude with a mohawk on the beach on the way back and two Spanish babes doing yoga up the beach.

I was so close to, I would have, but I arranged to get a new one from Don Munro and I just picked it up off him then. The old one got chewed by rats.
So, no.

Surfing nude plus no legrope plus nobody out in Byron means you quite possibly literally jumped the shark

If the wsl can harness Shearer's Tallows session, they just might not be dead yet.

Inspired by Hatchnam, I am going to ride nothing but single fins for the next two weeks.

Ten channel single fins.

I’ll report back.

Attaboy! I’m heading to Wanda this minute with a big old pintail single fin to mow me down some long south swell walls
