Taking the ocean out of the equation shows it's relatively simple to teach someone to cut across a wave.godsavethequeen wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 8:39 pmSurely the likes of Lewis Hamilton at Kelly’s pool have throughly torpedoed the myth of surfing being difficult to learn?

Everyone who can ride a bike can surf. 10ft mal, 1' of foamy wave, riding prone... you're surfing.steve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:33 amlol, every Cnut on earth can ride a bike.

But really there's a range of skills for both and I think the difficulty for surfing and bike riding at the professional level is pretty similar.
Here's an example:

If you don't think that is as skillfull as anything in surfing then you must have had a lobotomy

So you're going to arbitrarily define a certain skill level before you acknowledge that someone is actually "surfing".

Jesus fccck, trying to compare riding a bike to someone learning to paddle out in average conditions, paddle onto a wave and trim across open face face. Fccck, there is no comparison. Wtf are you cnuts harping on about.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Imagine the earnest Guardian articles if learning to ride a bike was an adult thing. “My instructor made it look easy, zipping around balanced atop a sleek machine with impossibly skinny tyres, barely even holding on to the steering bar. I took a deep breath and climbed aboard my chunkier steed which, to my relief, had been fitted with extra wheels to keep me upright. ‘Here goes nothing’ I muttered as I launched away from the kerb, my bum already protesting at the cruelly hard seat...”
