Nusa Dual was just OK yesterday.

I road back in heavy rain, no problem, I was in boardies and a wetshirt anyway.

Today is actually offshore, but the swell is tiny. Last year it was well overhead or bigger a lot of the time.

Finally Cranked gets kind of skunked. Welcome to my world . May you have 2 weeks of onshore dribble just to even up the scorecard. You and your double overhead glassy impossibles with 4 guys out can fcuk right off.

I am getting skunked for sure black duck. From all reports and from watching endless vids, this wet season was the best of the decade.

But it all went to pieces a few days before I arrived. To add to that I was riding new boards and my surfing skills seemed to have deserted me. Black depression was hovering in my mind.

But then, this morning the rain cleared, the wind switched offshore: Temples had some OK waves, a friendly crew, and suddenly, I could surf again :-D-:

The rain was back in the afternoon, the swell dropped, and the onshores were, well, onshore.

At least a decent period swell from a good direction - 19s SSW - though small, is supposed to arrive late morning. For the week I've been here it's been 6-10s from 3 different directions and wind affected.

Swell energy goes from the last week's 150-250kJ to 400-900kJ for the next week.

I nabbed a couple of smooth little point waves in the dark this morn. My first one was, well, hard to see. In fact i mistook the clouds on the horizon for the lip and stuffed it up! Need daylight saving to end stat, It got stoopid busy out there.

Great swell direction

We watch Surfers of Bali regularly. Hope to see you on there one day, Cranky. The photographer seems to be more interested in g string wearing wahines however. Not that I can blame him. Some classic stuff on there. Batu Balung looks like a complete tropical version of Bondi without the grunt.

They seem to mainly cover the Canggu area with less frequent forays just about anywhere else in Bali.

There's three major take-off zones spread over 600m. It's doesn't really work until it's overhead (the bigger the better), the swell is from a particular direction, and the offshore is blowing. Lots of closeouts, it sections really, really fast, every move, and your line, has to be focused on getting down the line. It's not called Impossibles for no reason.

Exhilarating speed and absolute focus. No stalling for a barrel.

When conditions are right it's a 600m ride. Works best at overhead to triple overhead. Bigger than that it's just the third takeoff zone thats used by most people. There's a big trench there that focuses the swell from double overhead and up.

Works on all tides, a bit fatter and easier on the high.

I've only ever caught about half a dozen waves for the full length. Most times it's in just one of the three takeoff zones and making just one zone is reward enough. Without all of the three conditions it's often at best a 50 to 100m ride.

Offshores, sun and swell today, all day, and more to come. Very low tide this morning with a long period swell. Only a few out, as it's a long period swell there's long waits between sets.

Very low tide, just had a perigee full moon.
High tides, too, as there is only a finite amount of water on this little planet, should be unusually fulsome.

I had to look that up.

The Supermoon on November 14, 2016, was the closest since January 26, 1948. The next time a Full Moon will come even closer to Earth is on November 25, 2034 (dates based on UTC time).

Super Full Moon also looks about 30% brighter than a Micro Full Moon and about 16% brighter than an average Full Moon.

Super = Perigee

Perigee is the opposite of apogee, which is when the micro full moon would occur.
