That guy's pretty deep Cranked. Did he make it?
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I'll have to aplogise for using kJs - but one of the long time guys here reckons it was 5000kJ, I don't remember feet or kJs for it, just a gestalt - but 5000 seems about right.
So this one is now around 4000kJ imo and is "predicted" to get to 15,000kJ, so it does have a bit to go.
Those pics are of the bombie. In that muzza swell it was so big that the whole secrets/bombie/outside peak section was a giant washing machine most of the day and no-one went near it, it would have been unsurvivable imho.

No. He was out there charging for hours, mainly by himself.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
what a great end to the day. the swell really picked up and the sets kept on pumping. there was six or so of us watching. there were yells and groans as surfers got caught inside and obliterated, or pulled into spectacular monsters
from our vantage point the swell lines stretched to the horizon, the most magnificent site for any surfer. attempted paddle ins and outs had there own terrible drama. either direction they were swept in by a river of water to the killing zone on the racetrack. 10' of white water grinding the unfortunates onto an evil zone of shallow water. they always disappeared around the corner and were never seen again.
most takeoffs ended in disaster, but there was a charging bunch who just took it all and kept coming back for more. the day of days for the heros of surfing. what a fcuking evening, fittingly closed by a spectacular sunset

Re: Where did you surf today ?
i hope I don't sound overly harsh here little buddy. but, i find it hard to believe you've surfed most of your life, and you can't put a round-a-bout height on the waves – for eg those top sequences are 8-foot.
... yet you can put this totally irrelevant measure of kj's onto the waves, which no one, absolutely no one, who isn't stark raving mad, can understand.
i love ya mate, and i hope this post finds you well.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Unfortunately no... flat battery.
There were two pros tho', one shooting stills, the other video.
Pedro, the stills guy, had a super slowmo series of probably the best and biggest wave so far (it was the previous swell of the nineteenth). I and a mate watched it a few times. He and Pedro and I all agreed it was big and hollow, comparable to some of the best of chopes or cloudbreak and the best pic of the swells so far.
Pedro hired a little jakung at Jimbaran bay, and they filmed a well known portugues/german big wave rider (forgotten his name) from the water. He was terrified, but got some great pics looking into the waves. He was not even sure where he was, but it looks like outside corner.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Its a gestalt to which I attach a kJ measure, this crowds out feet, which are a pain in the arse anyway because of the double standard. I really have not consiously or unconsciously used feet for many years.crabmeat thompson wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 7:07 ami hope I don't sound overly harsh here little buddy. but, i find it hard to believe you've surfed most of your life, and you can't put a round-a-bout height on the waves – for eg those top sequences are 8-foot.

When I first encountered kJ I was as sceptical as you. But it was always there on surf forecast and I got interested in comparing to feet to see how stupid it was.
The guys who I was watching with came up with exclamations like its gotta be 20-25'. Probably thats real feet.
