Yes, congratulations, cranky. Well done. Makes perfect sense to me.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Looks to be about 1-2 kilojoules today with a light offjoule coming from the South-Joule.

Uh oh, It's the Beanpole kiss of death.
Cranked, you are now and forevermore banned from the Realsurf inner rectum.

Thank god for that

Being the joule holidays, there’ll be a lot of groms in the water.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
For shitts and giggles I just checked out this "surf forecast" site.Cranked wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 9:24 pm
Well really I think it would be nearly every one who uses surf forecast, it's so front and centre and you know immediately what your local is going to be like, that anyone using that site regularly would be onto it with a few months.
So what's their user total as an order of magnitude? 10, 100 and 1,000 are too small. 100,000 is probably too big, but not out of the question. So let's be conservative and use 10,000 and, just guessing, but probably 90% of those would have realised its advantages.
So my analysis is probably somewhere between 5,000 to 15,000 people using kJ and that's about as close as we can get without a lot of time and effort. If that site has 100,000 users though there could be 90,000 people using kJs
It exceeded my wildest expectations for kookiness.
I'd never heard of it before, never heard it mentioned.
I was interested to map the Kj readings against real world observations, with an open mind.
It put Lennox Point, close to dead flat , at 242 Kj.
Meanwhile the local swell magnet, which is looking mighty fine with punchy OH peaks it placed at 42Kj.
So, according to Surf forecast there is more than 5 times more power/energy at a spot that is dead flat than one that is pumping.
Judging from the engagement (reviews, photos etc etc) I'd estimate the global user base at around 20-50........probably euro kooks, probably the guys that designed it and built it and their friends and family.
Sorry Cranked this concept is even more still born than Surftechs.

Possible bullshit computer algorithm with no human oversight?
The spot guides are laughably inaccurate too.
This has euro kook stink all over it.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
over half a metre of swell increase at 18 seconds, is a pretty substantial spike in swell. head high to properly overhead in three hours?
under no circumstances does one need to go full retard and bring kilojoules into that equation.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
It works for me guys, and a lot of other people I know.
So do surftechs

The power in a swell is proportional to the period and the square of the wave height. In deep water only.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
thats the logical problem of arguing from anecdote.
"Argument by anecdote is when you prove a point with a story. It is a very compelling argument, because people like stories about other people more than they like cold, hard facts. Too often, though, the argument by anecdote is used when the facts are stacked heavily against a position. If you don’t have the facts, tell a story. People will believe the anecdote because it demonstrates what they themselves believe to be true. That’s why you’ll find more arguments by anecdotes proffered by those on the losing end of the “facts” battle."

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I don't expect any surf forecast site to tell me the wave size for the actual breaks. Just the swell detail is sufficient.
How that affects all the local breaks varies significantly based on several factors which you both know.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Possibly some of the same factors that would influence wave energy as measured in Kilojoules (even if using a mis-applied equation)?
No?
No?

Off course it does, so what?
