Where is the solidarity within the elite? I think the system is particularly relevant to places like Indo.

Getting back to reality. Out the front. God what a waste. Lovely swell, beautiful buttery conditions and no fcuking banks. About 1 wave every 3rd or 4th set would have enough corner to stay open for a bit. Wave after beautiful wave just closing out. Crunch. Such a fcuking waste. Banks every where around here are pretty fcuking dire right now.

I'd love to create 40 or 50 Lennox points up and down the coast, rights AND lefts, as well as a few slabby reef breaks and some better beach bathymetry for a bunch of breaks, just a series of good waves that respond to different swell directions, supplementing and improving existing rocky points to provide some justice for all these swells that just shit themselves on crud beach sandbanks. Spread the crowd, keep everyone way happier, it would be excellence. Imagine having 50 or more Lennox point rights and lefts with an easy rock off up and down the coast. This could be my life's work, kind of shits on making buildings.

island was shit aj, with 30 guys on it. Just mush burgers. It's a fickle wave, as you know and this swell isn't doing anything out there, even though it has kind of the right direction. Tomorrow is another day though and i'm hanging at casa del southern duck to see what it brings.

In any case, I and many, many other people I talk with, have found the Surf Forecast kJ predictions very useful, so much so that I don't even look at wave heights any more
is that like all the Aussies who aren't on the Bukit?

Oh Zing!

I’ve got a fair level of respect for you for doing what you do at the age of 67. However I question the kilojoule system. Everyone knows that a longer period swell equals more joules. We just don’t need to talk like that.

They are still not here you clown. They have moved on to the many other locations in Indonesia. The huge new surfing populations from europe and south america - that probably out number australians 20 to 1 - are still finding their way in Indonesia and currently gravitate to the better known and more readily accessible waves on the bukit en masse.

As for kJs, I talk to many of the local chargers for christ's sake, they and I, check the surf at Ulus most mornings at first light and regularly during the day. When I did not have any memory of the kJs of the Muzza swell three years ago when checking the surf this morning, it was one of them that instantly said it was 5000 kJs. A lot of them use it.

kJs is a finer grained and a much more simple and comprehensible estimate of waves than the mental juggling needed when trying to combine wave height and period into a simple meaningful measurement.

There's more people here telling me I should pay attention to kJs than the other way around.

because i'd like to club him to death with a car steering lock and end this nonsense right now.

Shall I get someone to email rob so he can justify his kilojoules in the public space?

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

what's his last name? I was talking with a guy from the UK about a feature for surfing life ... bathymetry expert. can't for the life of me remember his name.

dumbing down swell height, direction and interval and rebranding it as kilojoules, is the most retarded thing i've ever heard.

Rob Davies runs surf - and indeed Snow - Forecast.com. Are you thinking of Tony Butt?

Tony Butt,
Hard to take anything Tony Butt says seriously.
Especially kilojoules.
