Re: Where did you surf today ?
They’ve replaced it with this one so presumably it didn’t work particularly well
From the reviews. Bloke sounds like he could be your twin, cranked:
“I had a bilateral fracture at C6 when I was dumped some months back so I was looking for some protection when I resumed surfing. This looked to offer what I was looking for at a reasonable price.
From cycling, I know how these should fit to be effective. Based on my measurements a medium should suit and it did. But a large be more comfortable for prolonged sessions in the water and still work well.
I have not been able to wet test it yet because the wind and waves have not been cooperating here in Perth.
I will add to this review if I can when I do.
I am part of a large group of older surfers and we bought these in a batch of four to defray the shipping costs. It is possible that more people in the group may opt to use helmets come the summer”

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I bought an O’Neill wetsuit hood with a Velcro strap. Way superior to my previous ripcurl one. 3/2 mm. Padded furry lining like you get in wetsuits. It was substantially cheaper than the next step up ripcurl one that had similar features.
Only worn it a few times but it hangs on pretty well. Very small bill which I like.

That’s nice beans. We're talking about helmets not hoods

Yeah, I thought the extra padding would help. So you are saying that second one is a helmet?
I would probably go a Gath Helmet.
Checked them out. Look pretty good.
Tom Carroll approved.

Give him a break, it’s Fathers Day. He’s been on the beers since 9am.

Big and windy. Too windy, tried my luck at a location similar to - but not as good as, not as busy as - the point with a board far, far too small.

Big sets at Bronte with a crew out. Pretty similar to last week. Had a look at Coogee. Not big enough yet.

Probably bigger than yesterday and much cleaner. Saw a couple of excellent thrashings at Bronte and the big right is depositing surfers right in front of the cliffs if they keep going.

You can pick up Gath's for a pittance on Gumtree/eBay and Facebook marketplace. Sounds like you could use the Jedi model that comes with the drop down visor.

Looks more like a cap so I guess that’s good. I sometimes wonder about gath hemets for ear protection as well as head safety. Usually a sign that you should get as far away from the wearer as possible if seen at Bondi.
There’s some wicked footage on YouTube of a heavy season in the Mentawis.
A bit of bush stitching and stapling of the guys head.

Groan, went for a bash on the foamy up at Kiddies Corner. I keep vowing not to do that because it always ends the same way when there’s a bit of swell. Tiny take off area. Rip dragging you out to sea and the bigger ones double up so there’s people flying in all directions. Bit of paddle practice anyway.

Had another bash some where else. Looked okaybut there was still the occasional sneaker coming through. Got smashed by a big one and thought my leash was going to break.

Looked like it would have been good this morning before the howling SE wind got into it.
