Re: Where did you surf today ?
This morning I had one of those once in a year surfs.
Flat yesterday but i was watching the swell move up the NSW coast on the MHL buoys late afternoon and evening.
Swell period jumped up to almost 15 seconds.
So this morning my local was about 2' before dawn but clean and lined up.
In my 2 hours in the surf it jumped up to head high and a bit.
The Christo board loved it.
We were all just paddling around with big grins on our faces.
Same in the Car Park afterwards. Everyone grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
My shoulders ache.
My lower back aches.
My calf muscles ache.
My thighs ache.
Five hours later I'm still frothing

….this was pushing off the wall not diving in.
...running out of breath underwater hasn’t been an issue. Not too bad for a 62 y/o who surfs irregularly.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
That is true.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I suppose I should get off my arse and start going down to MR. There's breaks there that are protected and/or offshore for any wind, swell is a given.
The main problem is accommodation is expensive, and it's a bit chilly camping, plus the covid19 exposure risk from communal toilets and showers is a turnoff.
It's been about 10 years since I last surfed there.

Yeah, I don't understand this argument you've constructed in your mind about why MR sucks for surfing.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
It's pretty simple: onshore winds about 70-90% of the time; 3+m swell required for protected spots; expensive to stay there; very crowded surf; high standard of average surfer; sharks! they became a threat about 10 years ago and it's no longer safe to surf any breaks let alone the isolated ones I loved; no shark attacks in Indo is a big deal (we can ignore the few nibbles in Balian)
So it's only a destination I would consider now that I can't get to Indonesia.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
If I lived there it would be OK though. I'd probably get a good surf most weeks, and bike riding is great there. But its 240k from Perth and the hit rate is not worth it.
I'd move there but Mrs Cranked is dead set against it. Could sell the place in Sawtell and get something, MR area is cheaper now than Sawtell.
