After conducting numerous interviews and reviewing written accounts of the incident prepared by spectators, athletes, ASP Judges, and other officials, and after carefully reviewing videotape of the incident and subsequent press accounts from the involved athletes, ASP Rules Judge Robert Gerard has determined that the incident was not only unfortunate, but should not have occurred.
That having been said, Gerard's ruling involves no monetary fine for Coco Ho, but rather involved a lengthy counseling session and orientation to the rules and the protocol of expected sportsmanlike behavior during ASP events.
MY GOD NICK

I think it would be fair to say that in most sports…especially professional…
the competitors push the boundaries of the rules in an attempt to reach their desired outcome.
In most sports it is usually team against team or player-v-player. The appropriate penalty if given can balance the ledger…if…but…maybe…
But in a situation where there are four competitors in direct competition…
this leaves the door open for one of them to sacrifice their position in order to assist another.
In surfing…man-on-man heats usually circumvents this problem.
People will continue to flaunt rules as long as governing bodies refuse to hand out the
appropriate punishments when dealing with the perpetrators…
The sporting pages of newspapers would be extremely boring and sparest if it wasn’t for the cheats…
and who would you blame when you team got beaten if you couldn’t blame the cheats on the other side...
or the bias underhanded bribe taking blind stupid fat ugly idiotic nancy boy poof referee.

I wasn't sure there Ron, as I couldn't quite grab the inflection over the internet. Sarcasm just doesn't carry well over the intertubes.
They are better than me, so I had to assume you were being nice. Relative to male pro surfers there is no comparison at all. Even the better surfers at your local probably kill 'em.

An interesting thought albyal. Sort of reminds me of the 'in vino veritas' motto.
We'll have to come up with an updated latin motto for the intertubes.

That blog is so offensive...
I wonder if the editor at the SMH has any idea about Laynes walkie talkie incident?

. Robert emphasized that Ho was not only 100% cooperative and professional during the course of his investigation, but is nothing short of "heartbroken" over the incident and the subsequent controversy.
It's a delicious bit of irony or perhaps "family nurturing" that Derek and Michael have been involved in some very well documented cases of "Hawaiian rules" out at Pipeline when world titles have been on the line.
Would take a more naive mind then mine to believe that Coco hasn't been schooled by her elders.

Exactly. She knew what she was doing.
