Dear AlbyAl

Precisely my friend you are correct, let me explain it another way.
I'll keep it short, nice and concise I won't keep you all day.
The point that I was making is my writing is poetry not rap.
Though I might be lazy and my crazy ramblings full of crap.
It could be immature and in fact not written well.
And has in fact if I'm correct been refered to as doggerel.
But poetry is what it is, of this I am quite sure.
Now if you disagree with me I'm sure we will hear more.
So there it is I've had my say and got it off my chest.
Oh, and taking the piss out of BB is for fun and done in jest.

Poetry.......?

Yes I know I could have put..... "is fun cause he's a pest"

Gee for a moment there I thought you were being serious like KK Woms.

Would be really nice for a change if you were , at the very least , a little original and funny.

OK Wombles, I ain't got no axe to grind nor trip to unwind.

You've got some potential there actually - some nice lines. Other old geezers in these threads are also quite cool with rhymes now and again, and some certainly know their stuff; some e e cummings impersonations a little while back were pure rolled gold, laugh not barf.

Surf poetry? Can you do it? A challenge - not easy - make you queasy.

A surf to be spoke
whether it's accessed by boat
Comforts and cradles
by far the most able
For that's the whole trip
our lives a mere blip
So enjoy while you can
as we all end up in the sand
Take heed , take note
each and everyone of you blokes
And cherish each wave
Please don't be a slave
For futures uncertain
means nought behind the silver curtain.
So live for the moment not in the past
Cause you never know which wave be your last.

Prob not up to AlbyAl's standard but there you go.......an attempt at least.

Hey Buffy that was very good.
No I’m not pulling on your chain.
You must have taken my advice to go stand in the rain.
It’s nice to see you can be nice
It’s certainly a change.
You may be human after all and maybe not so strange.
We didn’t get the poison ivy,
An olive branch instead.
But somehow I don’t know if the old Buffy is quite dead.
It’s like a horror movie,
Where you think they’ve all been saved.
Only to find that the monster has risen from the grave.
Stay tuned to this station
Make sure you don’t touch that dial.
I'm sure we will get an answer, it might take a little while.

BB
I'll see if I can do as well
Right now my brain is drained
You see I have been traveling five hours on a plane.
Tomorrow is another day
A statement we all know.
So if I'm feeling up to it, I'll give surf poetry a go.

Hmmm, not bad BB, probably still shaded by Wombles, who's aiming to be Realsurf's Poet Laureate, who, when digging for rhymes, shows he can quarry it. You've got the surf moment BB, quite nicely traced, when we lose our worldly pressures, which leave us all straightlaced. It may be hedonism, but better than pessimism, the liquid glide, no time to be snide.

Hmmm, wombles still ahead.

Hey AlbyAl, here is a quick attempt, give me some time and I'll try and do the topic some justice.

A beach
Early morning
Wet sand between your toes
The feeling of anticipation
Only a surfer knows
Waves need to be ridden
To race across the face
The fall line
Bottom turn
Its timeless
Pure grace
A true surfer
Always dreaming
Understands this fact
The rhythm of the ocean
Will forever call them back.
Riding waves is an addiction
And cannot be explained
It cleanses you
Sets you free
Removes life’s bonds and chains
Surfing is full of clichés
And it will stand the test of time
I cannot do it justice
With just this simple rhyme.

Mmm, yeahbut yeahbut I think yer doggeral is better. I wonder if the Mulga Bill yarn could be used as a frame on which to hang some version of surfing's mad turn to a new craft? ...

'Twas Crazybob from Bondi South, that caught the surfing craze
He gave away the boogie board, on which he lazed the days;
He slid himself into wetsuit gear, fantastic to be seen
He hurried down to the surfie's shop, for a board he was mighty keen;
And as he took it through the door, with a face so full of pride,
The smirking RipCurl rep did say: "Excuse me can you ride?"
"See here, you twit," said Crazybob, " from Eden to Ti Tree,
From Narrabeen to Burleigh Heads, there's none can surf like me.
I'm tops all right at every craft, as all the chicks do know,
Although I don't much brag at all - I laugh at blokes that crow.
But surfing is my special thing, my biggest rush alright;
Just check a seagull, can it fly, a pitbull can it fight.
There's nothing scaled nor gliding yet, or diving like an eel,
There's nothing finned nor floating, which water does it feel,
But what I'll ride, while ankle-strapped and waxed atop the deck,
I'll ride this three-finned concern, across that sand I'll now go trek.

Hey AlbyAl,

That was on the money
Really
Really
Very funny

Enough to make the purists squirm
In Banjo’s grave I think he turns
An NC too will have concerns
You’ve opened up a can of worms

Where to now
I hear you ask
Should we pursue this onerous task
So much material before our eyes
In the name of surfing to plagiarize
I don’t if I can go there
I’m sure I will
It’s only fair

The pull of the surf
A magnet
Larger than life
The angry sea
A lions roar
Scares me
Like a junkie
I need more
Waiting
I dream
To feel you
Your touch
Your taste
Your smell
To embrace you
To feel your embrace
Like a love lost
You will return
To cleanse me
I know this
I am your slave
And your master
I refuse to grow old.

genuinely I’m contrite
this could have been a blight
to this excellent surfing site
sorry.

did you mention jim morrison
then ok…………. this is the end.
