Re: Pintails
Anyway the topic is pintails and on that score it needs to be said that the old notion that pintails are only for big waves is BS.

It's the absolute truth, sorry if it doesn't fit with your assumptions.Ringmaster wrote:Roy_Stewart wrote:

Re: Pintails
Funny I was surfing a puntail on the weekend and I realised something really obvious. You know when you suddenly go "so thats why that happens".
This obvious revelation was that pins dig in as you go down the wave face on take off whereas chunky tails stay on top. Stupid really but I just always thought about them in the barrel or when your doing a cutback. Obviously this is good when the surf is bigger and more powerfull. It makes them more stable but they dud out if the surfs fat and gutless.

Re: Pintails
...so, your claim that there is no absolute truth is not an absolute truth.

Aha, PP! Maybe my statement is a subjective truth. Or, perhaps, Roy's statement could be best described as optimal truth. What about relative truth?purple pyramids wrote:...so, your claim that there is no absolute truth is not an absolute truth.ajohnsen wrote:There is no absolute truth, Roy.
Absolute truth? Absolutely not. And that's absolutely subjective.

Re: Pintails
I prefer the Nietzschean framing: ask not whether truth or not but why seek "truth". Why not lies? Maybe lies have been more beneficial for humanity than truth?
Maybe for the vast majority lies are infinitely preferable.

Re: Pintails
I quite like Fromm's definition of truth: a functional approximation of reality.
Re: Pintails
That assumes we can dscover and know truth....
If we create our worlds, what does that do for truth.
A statement or proposition can be absurd but logically true so we can't rely on that, so how do we determine it.
Oh, and I like pintails and have 1, although I only assume that it is my spare room since I am not currently interacting with it.

Is that the truth?OddaP wrote:

Re: Pintails
No a feeling (I like) and an assumption. Neither a statement of veracity.
I might be looking to off load it anyone interested.
