Really Northern beaches isnt the go but ... North Narra (no joke) is pretty good. Got fishing, a good break, nice beach for girly, close to a few good pubs.

Squidster, More details....what do you want?
Revo wasn't joking for a cheaper holiday where you're driving.@ NN there's the caravan park thing (if a housing commission complex hasn't been built since I was last there) a lagoon, a pub that used to really good in the 80's. It's 1/2way between Manly and Palmy.
For the quieter get away Palmy but you may need a mal to surf there and it's not usually that crash, 20 min drive for a better surf unless WHaley's working and your nice to the locals. Somewhere to stay is scarse and >$.
Manly best spot for perving, heaps of places to stay eat drink party etc. Waves are well it's Manly  but Queenscliffe is there :D and from there 15min+ walk to Sth Curly
DY again not sure how easy places to stay are to find and it's busy in a different way to Manly.
Newport may be another option, but again finding somewhere to stay.
Someone else will know about accom availabilities in these areas.

if the girl (assuming shes a girl) likes to have fun party an that manly down south is the go with heaps to do. shite beaches though.

further up yo go the quieter and generally the better the waves get. Some space for thee big van at narra like he said. newport park always has heaps of empty parks.

He wants to experience what a real crowd is like, before he goes back to his crumbling uncrowded waves.

 ^^
South or North Coast in NSW would be more valuable and better waves, but there's nowhere to shop for the MRS!

Squidy,

Impress the missus by taking a trip a few hours further up the coast. Hit Kempsey, then grab some grub at Crescent. Coast on down the dirt road to Plomer, set up camp, feast on ya grub under a million stars and a few quiet ones. Grab the board for an early on the point with the dolphins or catch a barrel at the beachies. Nth Beaches have nothing on this !!

You wouldn't go for a holiday break anywhere btw Manly and Palmy unless you were staying the night at a manly hostel or you scored a beach house at Palm beach for a few weeks

Head further north towards Coffs/ or Byron Bay.

The northern beaches? What, are you a backpacker or something? Squidlips don't do it! Listen to the many voices of reason here (yeah I even suprised myself typing THAT one) & hit the north or south coasts. Why you'd come here on 'holiday' is beyond me.

A: To get away from all that Vicco sunshine.

Well yeah, but really... the northern beaches?!?!? There's probably a better comparison out there somewhere, but isn't it a bit like going to Hawaii & sticking to Waikiki only?
