surfed it

Post by nomad74 » Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:12 pm

hey,

I was in Puket and got some waves, nothing classic, just localised wind swell but it did get to 3 ft face. I hired a board off Osama (Islamic bloke that surfed) who was the owner of the little restaurant in from of the break.
Also got waves that trip in the gulf of Thailand.
Still I wouldn`t travel there looking for waves.
Other strange locaions that have waves - India / Italy / Cuba / The Med.

The only wave that Phuket ever got it didn't want - Dec 2005.

I have been to Phuket a few times and have seen up to 5', but only smashing shories, great for a body bash but that's about it.
One beach south of patong was about the best I saw, it breaks further out but it's off limits to boards as it's a private resort beach. I have been right around the coastline on a bike and seen nothing worth taking a board for.

Snorkling is quite good, lots of limestone caves

Board went like a bomb! (Islamic wahabist joke)

I've been surfing in Phuket for ages, good hangover waves and when a swell is on, when Sumatra is 10 - 12' you can score some good point set up's.......... Nothing like Indo though but worth borrowing a board for a paddle. My mate has a surf shop with rental boards at Kata beach, his name is Da and a really good guy and can take you surfing. La Meridian hotel has it's own private left just south of Patong.
Theres great beginner waves for the kids and plenty of other things to do.
