oily smoothe golden water thurs evening

Post by marcus » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:13 am

was out a reef in newcastle thurs arvo into evening, couldnt help but think there must have been some unreal sessions go down at other places.
the tide was super high tide, lifting waves up onto reef and bowling horseshoe shaped above the usually exposed reef.
the lightning and big thunder clouds to the south west gave the sky an eerie golden glow, the water was golden and smooth with bowly tubes.

couldnt help but think the guys back home would be staying out for one after another "one last wave", the water making cool noises under your board as you glide on the smooth face into a bowl.

coming back to land, its dark and the cars headlights go past, surfers most of them, coming back from one last wave. street washed from the storm.

Was out at Longy Wednesday evening, sky was black/green with thunder making a hell of a noise, Felt like it was the end of the world, Looking from DY to Collaroy the sky was like creeping up to explode, it was so cool but freaky. Waves were smooth as when first got in at 5.45pm until the storm really hit, like a wirlpool 30mins later.. Never experienced it before.

After Work - Thursday - Murmuring of Autumn

Sand pushed into the corner, out behind the the Pools. The reef peaking the easterly swell, before the lurch out and onto the sand. Sheet glass, grey sky = no horizon. Barrels creeping through, shifty, hard to find. Patience. Handful of crew out, mostly kids. Paddle hard, beat the lurch. Into them. Duck. hollow. Moon is up now. Too hard to see. Back to car, home to dinner.

The Narrabeen stretch was great with oily no wind conditions. But it was the sky took the prize for the day. Amazing colours; purple, orange, violet etc. And the dramatic dark clouds made for a sweet sneaky arvo sesh.

Good luck to you Ron and the boys.

I checked the 'bra around 6.00 pm. Wall to wall surfers, weak wind swell peaks only, short rides, and not that oily smooth.

All in all not that exciting, but a late is a late. Would have been more excited except for the crowd factor. Must have been better your way.

I do love the dramatic skies that come with the storms though.

I had a quiet smooth session under the headland just south of the lagoon with sweat little peaks running into the beach. A cast of many further up the beach and over the headland on the point by the clubhouse.
