Well if they were morbidly obese I'd swear I was at a Sumo resort.

Ha. I never would have paid much attention to this statement but a recent diagnosis of Peripheral Sensory Neuropathy has made me very aware of the role feet (and especially toes) play in balance and contact.

Hanging well, steve

Could perhaps do with a callous or 2 on the soles. Was definitely a better surfer when my feet were tough

Swapped to some of those barefoot shows recently, not the ones with ninja toes, and my feet are in the best shape for years.

Still surfed like a fcuking Muppet yesterday, but it was my first surf with a board in 2016.

Are thongs good for your feet? Keep the muscles working, gripping and moving with each step???

This sounds good. Running on the beach in bare feet....good. Hopping on rocks....treading on a few barnacles.....all good.

i read some time ago from some genuine doctor-come-outdoorsy type about the psychological and health benefits of walking barefoot and feeling the earth under one's feet.

it's true. aside from sand walks/runs, and the numerous benefits of that, walking the promenade in bare feet a few laps did wonders for my lower back issues.
i've been digging the barefoot walk down to the beach, log under arm gambolling over the hot pavement...feel like a 23yr old bikini model.

thongs, i've read/heard somewhere Loofs are bad for your feet and spine, and can mess with your head heart and soul.

For a good book about foot fitness I recommend "Born To Run" (nothing to do with Springsteen).

It studies the native Indian runners in Mexico's Copper Canyon also looks at the physiological benefits of walking and running barefoot using the author himself as a test dummy.

how are your calluses?
I usually build up a nice thick tread before my wife shaves it all down about 3 times a year. A good callus does wonders for rock hopping on the jump out.
