I'd use killahertz to measure what you experienced out at The Bukit earlier Crank'd.
ie: it'd kill me or hurt me bad.

@beans; "a couple of people said" ... what did you think?

I'd rate last thurs/fri eve as "as good as ..."

Had a look around midday today, it looked awfully good, but i was undernourished and fragile after a huge night.

Managed an arvo kip, downed some leftover mother's little helpers and a few fingers, suited up and, well, despite the slight drop in kj/khz, had a mad few on that sth corner bank.
Cramps in the calves after an hour or so sent me in.
yeah yeah..i know.

Yeah, it was good. Left in front of the skatepark. I surfed it at lunch. Got some great waves. Best one I was going to go in on and again did the classic just one more. Tide changed. The right in the corner started breaking better.

I've had so many good waves in the last three weeks.

With the upcoming swell in Vic this week, there's at least 5 people on Surfcoast 2ndhand surfboards swap/sell facebook that have just posted WTB step-up/gun ads.

Could be a spike in frothing kooks in the lineup this week.

I think him and his imaginary kilojoule measuring friends should be a shoe-in.
Get a grip on yourself Shearer, your ego is way to fragile
I think thats the pot calling the kettle etc etc

settle mate, it's just a bit of light hearted banter.....you can measure in Kilojoules all you like, no need to bring in an imaginary platoon behind you.

You get very uptight when the things you care about get traduced Cranked. surftechs being exhibit A, this kilojoule nonsense being exhibit B.

'Fragile Egos' will be the name of the Panicked Mummies triumphant coast to coast tour of Australia, playing to full houses of balding, thickening men running from the existential dread by immersing themselves in their obsessions

The platoon is not imaginary Steve, I spend a signicant amount of time every day discussing surf and surfing in the water and on land, surf forecasts are a major topic. kJs are pretty well accepted here.

What upsets me steve is your assumption that you are a gatekeeper for what people can believe as you have just demonstrated again - 'this kilojoule nonsense' - and your past comments regarding surftechs and the proportion of australians surfers on the bukit. Thousands of people use both surftechs and appreciate the more useful kJ, they are completely happy with them, your continued criticism and arrogance is tiresome.

By the way was 'Traduced' really what you meant?

tra·duce
trəˈd(y)o͞os/
verb
past tense: traduced; past participle: traduced
speak badly of or tell lies about (someone) so as to damage their reputation.
synonyms: defame, slander, speak ill of, misrepresent, malign, vilify, denigrate, disparage, slur, impugn, smear, besmirch, run down, blacken the name of, cast aspersions on

yes, speak badly of. Thats exactly what I meant.
You get very butt hurt when people traduce your sacred cows.

I think you called me a bigot because I trash talked surftechs.

"thousands" ........appreciate the more useful kJ,.....

Thousands?

bollocks.

pure bollocks.

I've never heard a single person use it, never seen a single written reference to it in any surf website, publication, forum etc etc .

It's you and maybe one or two of your mates......be honest.

thousands.......lol.

Sorry I know that is "tiresome" for you but I just like calling BS on BS.

4 fins, aj? Was asked about the work order today. Planner wants it closed out. Told her there's been unforeseeable delays, so you still have time in ✋

Well really I think it would be nearly every one who uses surf forecast, it's so front and centre and you know immediately what your local is going to be like, that anyone using that site regularly would be onto it with a few months.

So what's their user total as an order of magnitude? 10, 100 and 1,000 are too small. 100,000 is probably too big, but not out of the question. So let's be conservative and use 10,000 and, just guessing, but probably 90% of those would have realised its advantages.

So my analysis is probably somewhere between 5,000 to 15,000 people using kJ and that's about as close as we can get without a lot of time and effort. If that site has 100,000 users though there could be 90,000 people using kJs

Swiv, thanks for the prod. I’ve been meaning to contact you. Can you PM me your address and I’ll get ‘em back to you. I reckon it needs a thruster set up as it’s too loose and skatey as a quad.

Is that like the millions who watch WSL contests live?

Never used surf forecast.
I reckon 10,000 users world wide is pretty conservative though Legion

Wave energy (in kilo Joules, kJ) on the swell forecast tables and maps indicates the power of the predicted waves and can be the most useful guide to how powerful the surf is likely to be at your local beach / reef. It is a function of both wave size and period (the larger the waves and longer the period the greater the power). Small ocean waves with a long period can create the same size surf as larger waves with a short period but they can have the same wave energy, making it a potentially better guide to likely surf size. We would suggest making a note of the forecast wave energy on a small but surfable day and on a day that is the biggest you are happy to surf. This should give you the energy range that is in your comfort zone. As a rough guide, wave energy of 100kJ can be just about surfable at many breaks, 200-1000kJ should produce increasingly punchy waves while 1000-5,000+ can start to get really heavy and even dangerous at some breaks

North Shelley Beach is an old Favorite. The reef can get really good. Holds reasonable size. A few nooks and crannies in the area are worth a look as well. One very good mal/ fish wave nearby.
