They have 1.5 days of comp to run.

They are going to try to do the 1.5 days of remaining heats all in one day tomorrow.
"It's off today unfortunately as the swell really hasn't picked up yet," Kieren Perrow, ASP Commissioner, said. "We're working on the best way to complete the event in one day tomorrow -- that would be the ideal scenario with the swell we have projected. We're looking at shaving some heat times and running the overlapping heat format as far as we can through the event to maximize tomorrow because on Saturday morning we'll most likely be looking at an ocean that is pretty similar to this. The goal is to complete the event tomorrow if possible, but we'll back in the morning to look at the latest forecasts and swell charts to get a better reading on the next two days."

The sandbar will still be there and the winds will not be gentle offshore. It will be an unpredictable day, I reckon.

How totally amazing that G. Medina managed an 8.83 and then another 8.83 to defeat D. Payne in Round 3 and keep the ASP/Samsung script on track. How much precision is involved in breaking the scores down to 1/100th of a point to have an exact same ride value in a heat or maybe the judges have a card marked "hold this card up when Medina catches a wave". It's so scientific it scares me!!!!!! Just give the Brazo the cup now and get it over with.

Having some technical problems. Just turned on the web cast and the commentary was in Japanese. Unfortunatly they were able to fix the problem and restore the English commentary

Well of course he did silly. It was in the script! Though I reckon he was totally underscored on his first wave as it was obviously an 8.84 but his second only warranted an 8.82. Hang on-Well shit me! that's a 17.66 total anyways! So no harm done there and now the finale has reached it's climax with lots of kissing, crying and hugging (WCT manly surfer style of course) for the first South American World Champ of Surfing. Hooray. Get out your Galaxaxy smart phone cameras and start clicking away folks and get ready for next years show (sorry) contest.

And Julian Wilson is the triple crown champion. Tremendous achievement.

He stayed in Hawaii last year for a month or so after most of the pros had left. Copped a lot of heavy wipeouts, but worked on his Hawaii skills as just another free surfer. He paid some dues.
