sell me your board - budget $250 tops

Post by Hatchnam » Fri Nov 07, 2014 11:52 am

ok, so here's an opportunity for somebody to offload a board for some cash.

my standard everyday shortboard is getting beat up more and more by the day. and i'm getting sick and tired of repairing the fking thing. it's a great board, but it's one of this SLX epoxy constructions - and with daily use it's proving to be very fragile, rail shatters, dings, etc and before too long it'll be a write off.

so i need a replacement, fast, and my budget $250 tops

looking to buy a high-performance(ish) shortboard for everyday conditions 1-4foot.
something good for beachies (responsive, good in bowly or fatter conditions)
board MUST be durable (this is key) be it either a standard PU (well/strong built), or firewire technology or similar, and with durability being important - i'm even prepared to consider tufflite.

general specs..
32-36 litres of volume
somewhere in range of...
6'1 to 6'3 length
19.5 to 20.5 wide
2.5 - 2.75 thick
again, durability is king in the requirements list here.

i'm based sydney, so if you've got something that fits the bill then let's talk..

Jd had a 6'6" second hand on his Facebook site recently. Bit bigger yes, more expensive yes but it would last a lot longer than most while being much lighter.

thanks. but 6'6 is a bit long for what i'm after in this instance. with this board it's specifically for 1-4 foot range, beachies. so i wanna keep the length down to no longer than around 6'2 to keep things whippy with short radius turns.

This is probably too overvolumed for your requirements but I have a first generation JS Blak Box with FCS1 fin plugs that is just gathering dust.

Dims are 6'4 x 21 1/4' x 2 3/4". It fits the thickness requirements though.

love the design of that thing. it's right up the alley for what i'm after. the volume is teetering on the top end. but like always, i'd rather err on the side of more beef than less, and i'd have no trouble turning or throwing that thing around.

what condition is it in ? and what $$ do you want for it ?

^^ also, can i try it out..?

as my only one concern would be the width at 21 1/4. meaning, is it going to be a little dopey going rail-to-rail, or will it feel delayed for anything that needs a split-second response?

other than that, it looks good!

It is in pretty good nick overall. No rail damage, only two dings, both were professionally repaired
- the very tip, literally the pointy bit, of the nose was damaged by baggage handlers, despite being in a sock cover with added nose protection and a 10mm travel bag
- ding on the bottom near the tail, someone said it looked like another board's nose had pierced it

Other than that, there is a depression on the top deck to one side of the stringer near the middle of the board. That would be the one I'm most worried about. Not sure if it is a sign of impending delamination or deck collapsing. Or my sitting bones. Best to see it yourself.

Some minor depressions on the bottom side as well, including one that was made by my head when I got hit by the board in a shore break.

No probs with trying out the board. I haven't used the board since the start of last summer so there is no rush to return the board. The board has a tailpad as well. Sale price definitely within your budget.

There is also a 6'6" Miller V-Skate listed on GumTree. It didn't sell the first time around. I had a look at it this arvo but decided it wasn't for me.

I had a BB. Fun board but was not a fan of its late tail flip, I thought the Revolution was a far better board with respect to drive, BB likes the pocket. You'll enjoy it though.

If you want something wild I'll part with my 5'6" vanguard. Its only 29L but it'll feel closer to 32L.

I've also got one going spare if the others don't work out.

It's a Dylan Parese (DP) Goldfish. 6'4" x 20 3/4 x 2 5/8. 36ltrs.
Round tail, fuller outline & flat rocker. It's a good everyday beachie board.

CC. Thanks but the Vanguard things not really my cup of tea.
Damo. Thanks also, but the outline is probably a bit too rounded/bloated for what I'm after. That board looks a lot like a psillakis quad fish thing I used to have.

well, if you really want to consider tuflite I have a beaten up but perfectly rideable 6'0 byrne/tom carrol tuflite swallow tail.

this crappy link has a pic

http://www.surfscience.com/surfboards/b ... rroll-plus

it's tuflite so its very bouyant. and tuff. i have loved this board on and off over the last 6 years or so. dunno if its hi performance but it certainly works in surf up to 4-5 ft.

best of all you can have it for $45! with fins!

hi phil. thanks for the offer. how wide and thick is the board ?

also - the only reason i'm considering tuflite is i want a near indestructible board for small waves. which it should be ok for. in bigger surf, i hate the stiff corky feel of tuflite.

^ I think it's 19.5 wide, 2.65 thick.

It's really beaten up. Been on a few trips Bali and Samoa as well as being my go to board for years. However, tuflite is fuckn strong and all dings are essentially cosmetic.

I'm v average surfer 83kg and it goes great in waves that suit it. I'll get one made in pu or epoxy from Byrne one day... But for now, it don't get ridden and has a few years life left in it... I'd give it away to a deserving kid ... But if yr keen it's still a bargain at $45 !

Thanks anyway Phil et. al but ended up buying this 2nd hand for two fiddy.
6'2 x 19.5 x 2.5 pancho sullivan model, bushman. Surftec (Tuflite)
Didn't necessarily want to go Tuflite but it should last and take a beating.
Had it out today, but hard to comment on it yet. Fat wind burgers and all.

No worries. That looks like a good buy. Tuflites live up to their name. In certain consDitions they're excellent. Enjoy!
