Epoxy longboard repair

Post by JET01 » Tue May 23, 2017 9:18 pm

I bought a cheap epoxy longboard and left it on the roof on a hot day thinking the silver board bag would keep the heat off.

About 1/3 of the bottom has delammed...

Only paid $250 for it.

Is it worth getting it repaired?

Drill some small holes, pour in some thinned epoxy and press down with something heavy.

Ended up finding a similar (surfboard warehouse) board on the bumtree for similar dollars. I'll just start again and know never to leave it on the roof between OCT-MAR.

Or to be on the safe side put in one of those goretex vent plugs that allow expanding hot air to release but don't let water in.
This is what Firewire use.
Leaving a board inside a hot car in summer months can do the same as leaving it on the roof.
I left a board inside my van during a really hot February day and about 1/3 of the bottom delaminated.

How do you thin epoxy?

By the by I just repaired the nose of my tuflite fish with $2.50 epoxy two pack and some matting. Love it when ding repair places quote big buck for epoxy repairs.

Alcohol, or if you don't have any left, acetone

Yeah, I know you thin it with acetone but you're going to make it substantially weaker too. I was wondering if you had some amazing technique.

Bought my epoxy at the $2 Shop.
