cork for the backyarders

Post by pirate_agenda » Sun Jan 13, 2013 1:45 pm

Hey guys - i'm about to order a full roll of NL20 core cork, because its the only way to order it from the distributor. the full roll is probably way more than I need, so if anyone would like some i'm happy to share it round for my cost price per metre.

contact can be removed with thinners or acetone. the filler coat provides a lot of strength to your surfboard.

Wouldn't throw the acetone around too freely. Go by the manufacturer's recommendation for clean-up.

No strength in filler resin per se, if you don't believe me leave a very thin amount in a cup, pop it out and stand on it on a soft surface, it's the combination of resin and glass.

More strength in finish resin which now probably is rarely used.

Sorry to be a pedant…

Naked cork can be pretty tough on flesh, MF.

i find it a tiny fraction nicer than wax. bonus points for not getting wax balls stuck in my front mane and pubes.

It's more if you try to drag across it, if you are not sliding around it is okay. You can sand it smooth too, still grippy.

Don't get me wrong, I've got 2 and ride a 3rd with cork, and I'm not going back.
I just think it grabs hairy knees and scabs a bit.

The deadening effect is something I like, bit like driving a racing car with slightly deflated tyres on the beach. Seem to handle chop better, if they do lose a little crispness when it is perfect

looks pretty decent. 750ml though is a lot of weight to add!

my previous ones have gone on in the bag with 400ml resin which wets out 2 oz innegra, 4 oz quad axel, carbon fibre uni strip and 4 oz S glass

:d

Not sure if it exactly what you meant, but I've got a board that was retrofitted with cork after a repair, vacced on.
It is great. Weight wasn't critical, as the original was a bit light (innegra mixed with some other stuff I don't really understand). I'd estimate it added 400g or so, on a 6'4x 19.5"

hey guys,
where is the best place to get cork if I just want enough to retrofit to the deck of a 6'9?
I have a vac setup already so just need the cork.

cheers,

Hey all, anyone tried this stuff. Being self adhesive could save a whole lot of headaches and weight.

When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

it would just be like sticking a giant traction pad on the board - for me one of the benefits of including cork in a lam schedule is the strength and dampening affects it has on the ride, not just the traction.

Cork has go better grip than wax imo. Never tried the deck traction. But I love Cork.
