snapped epoxy repair

Hey
Was after some info on repairing a snapped firewire.My main question is what do I join the two snapped pieces back together with, do I use epoxy smeared on both pieces and should i insert some dowls for strength.This is my sons board and rather than throw it in the bin I thought Id try to repair as Ive had some experience making fibreglass boards and have repaired some heavy epoxy repair with success.
Any advise would be appreciated
