Stored Board Longevity

Post by Deesee » Sun Jul 01, 2012 6:24 pm

If i get a new custom stick made and store it without using (shape is moving onto the mines for work, and i'm keen on getting a few before he pulls the pin), do they go off, weaken, or get soggy after a year or so? Any sort of effects for the board? Or do they just retain all new characteristics but maybe yellow a little? Is there an ideal way to store? (i.e., no sun exposure, etc?)..
If it feels good, do it.

store it out of sunlight, protected from dust and on racks that support the evenly in a lot of places and it should be fine.

if it's on racks that are uneven, the board will end up with a twist in it.

fwiw I've always kept boards standing vertically nose down out of the sun at home, don't seem to have any issues with the boards warping or changing in any way, some of 'em only get ridden three or four times a year and they're fine.

OS got a bunch of boards stored under a house in HI, they get surfed a lot in short windows then put away again for many months, stacked lying flat without fins so they're sorta spooned together wrapped in plastic, they're fine too.

Sun would be the killer along with heat and uneven pressure on the board.

Riding 'em is what fcuks 'em up!
