It does, and it is acid rain.
The effect can last years and circle the globe.

I read somewhere that the last eruption dropped the world temp by about 1C in the subsequent year

Friend of ours left for Bali a day or 2 ago from Adelaide, then got diverted to Darwin, then Cairns, now back in Adelaide, never got to Bali.
They’re flying again now but In her words she’s “all flown out”

Bali 1963. I found the news I heard, but its not 1.0 but 0.1-0.4 degrees Celsius
Global temperatures dropped last time Agung erupted

Mount Agung last erupted in 1963 after lying dormant for decades.

When it erupted, experts said global atmospheric temperatures dropped by 0.1-0.4 degrees Celsius.

That might not sound like much, but it's quite a significant drop when you consider the last ice age occurred when global temperatures were only 5C cooler than they are now.

My book about Krakatoa is a good read. Quite timely. It used to be as big as Agung until it blew up.
