This is an extraordinarily flaccid summer.

I can't see a three foot wave in sight for weeks.

The rainfall deficit is also extraordinary..

despite the neutral Nina state for all intents and purposes we are in an intense El Nino phase.

maybe this is a new normal?

God help us if we do move into an El Nino this year as models are starting to indicate.

Braithy must burn his SUP, or we're doomed.

When Victorians, Tasmanians, South and West Australians get told by Queenslanders that they should move north because the surfing up there is just awesome

An old guy once told me, don't bother fishing in a northerly, you won't catch anything worth a damn.

From the 3 or 4 years I spent fishing thunder rock on the north coast, he seemed to be mostly correct. N/NE breeze under 10 knots was fine. Once it got over that mark, forgetaboutit. Nothing but vermin.

Jeez that was some good fishing up there off the stones. Trevally longer than your legs, hour + long fights with kingies. I remember I cast the old gangs & pilly right onto the back of a breeching manta ray once. Thing spooled me in about a nano second.

The little goat track you had to scamper up & down with all your gear plus a 14 foot gaff just to get there used to send a wee chill down the spine.

You just have to be a bit versatile, there's always Groper on calm days they pull like tractors, but I just can't bring myself to harm the big dumb buggers these days.

Hey Shep ... the cheese and I popped into Wooli for a gander the other day. Nice looking water around that break wall. We'll be heading back at some point ... kayaks in the river ... big stick off the rocks. You ever fished it ?

Bored and micro surf so popped across the road to the rocks for the arvo dead low tide change yesterday.
Half an later had six massive green eye squid _ four of em longer than 45cms and that doesn't include the tentacles.
Lost three more trying to lift the big buggers up onto the rocks. Pale purple and cream size 2.5 squid jig did the damage. Wished I'd brought the old LBG rod and Policansky reel with me to put one of the smaller squid out live.
