Re: Winter
So has anyone got any intelligence on how the sand banks have faired after the weekends bashing?

Re: Winter
Very poorly.
Minus a mechanical sand transport bypass system it's a 3-6month turnaround after a storm surf bashing.
We were about 2/3 there after successive events late Jan/Feb.
This one has just about cleaned out the cupboard again.
over it.
This is the June 2012 Fiji deep groundswell/ECL combo that wrecked the winter banks completely.
This is about 6-800 metres outside the normal Ox lineup and that is where the sand stayed all winter.

Feck I seriously hope it's a different story north of Byron.

Up this way it's not too bad at all. A particular sand bottom set up looks like it's setting itself up for about a 1 in every 5 year event.
Some beachies south of there have been sooper hollow too.

Looks like I might have to start driving further afield to surf.
Can't put up with another winter with no banks.
So what time is the post coffee debrief at Braithy?

WIth my new little (n)espresso machine, it's always coffee o'clock.
You'd always get fairly consistent banks down at the walls at ballina, wouldn't you Steve?

Re: Winter
N.Wall hasn't had decent banks for a year or more. It was about 70% of the way back when this last swell hit. From the S so Ballina copped the brunt of it.
S.Wall bits and pieces but generally speaking tidak bagus.

Deadset? I remember that place all through the late 90's and early 00's was nothing but money.
Next decent swell over 4 foot. Low tide alley will just about be linking up to the Lane. 400+ metres of rifling right.
You're in a hard spot. I personally wouldn't drive up here for a swell with how crowded it gets once the it's 4-foot and the beachies are out of play.
Over 6 foot you'll get waves, but far out you have to work for them against the rips and currents.
It's the 2-3 foot days which are golden. Everyone is stretched out, banks and sand everywhere from Fingal to the spit.

2-3ft surf barely gets my pulse rate above comatose. I'd rather rockfish mostly when it's small.
I want some fcuking proper surf and winter is when we should be getting it.

Those pics you post every morning look better than 90% of the gear i paddle into.
It's relative. Enjoy what you have SS, it's a shit load better than most... most of the time.

Gots to agree with Braithy Don, you are a bit uptight over this one.

Re: Winter
Sydney's banks have been terrible over the past 3 months but are starting to slowly return finally.
High tide causes a very quick death of many of the banks, but they are slowly returning thank god.
Strangely enough Manly has been the best of the stretch for a while provided theres enough swell getting in, maybe it was saved of the brunt of those big killer swells.
City beaches are pretty crap apart from some corners. The whole Maccs/Tama/Bronte stretch is the worst I've ever seen it, not even a decent wave near shore for a change. Where did all the sand go in such a small space?
