East Coast Aus, 9th-14th May.

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

East Coast Aus, 9th-14th May.

Hey weather gurus.

We're leaving for the road trip to Tassie on Weds, and having a slow meander down south to arrive @ Pt Melbourne for Monday night Spirit of Tassie action.

Anywhere on the coast for that time period, I should try and make sure I'm there for?

Hoping to get a few little 2-foot bays/points as well for the kids and wife, it'll probably be their last time in the ocean until next summer.

Yeah I've been sussing out the maps. Everywhere will be on, huh?

Might even be a bumpy ride over Bass strait if that low lingers.

if it's looking at all lumpy, and you haven't got a cabin on the Spirit, book one now. It will be the best money you've ever spent.
I went over in the cheap seats in a 6m swell. Everyone who got motion sickness took their tablets as we left the heads, spent the next 40 minutes hurling all over the carpet and seats, then passed out. The crew laid plastic bags over the spew and went to bed.
We spent the night sleeping in chairs in the bar, getting woken every hour or so and told to go back to our seats.
Doing that trip with kids is my idea of hell.

^^^^

I did it once when I was 14 on a school trip

Decent sized swell but not that big, didn't matter though, there was much spew to be had :D

Apparently ginger tablets are pretty good for sea-sickness

And yeah I wouldn't do it with kids either, especially for a holiday to Tassie. Forgetting the spew-factor for a minute if you add the cost of the cabin, plus the ferry cost of the car and then the return it works out more expensive than getting a flight from the airport and hiring a car for a week.
