Which one are you looking at?
Sydney is working fine for me, as is Batemans Bay.
Port Kembla is dodgy, but it often is.

Yesterday, all buoys only showed data up until the afternoon of the 14th. Today, sydney has no data from noon yesterday. Tried on 2 browsers and on my phone. It seems to be the same. The graph that shows the heights and period for the whole coast say 'no data available'.

Port kembla never works. Maybe it gets hit by ships all the time.

Surely this can't be correct?

http://www.mhl.nsw.gov.au/www/wave_temp_byron.htmlx

Water temp jumping 5 degrees in a few hours?

Can anyone on the ground confirm these observations?

It's not totally unreasonable as the EAC is currently offshore from the coast and there's a strong gradient from 20deg inshore to 25deg offshore as shown in this diagram..

But if the EAC started to encroach on the coast you'd expect a gradual increase in temp with time, not a 5deg jump in a few hours.

So I'd say it's erroneous.

big variations in temp this time of year.....especially if a piece of cold upwelling water (17-18c) was suddenly replaced by a warm eddy from the EAC (22-23c).

Unusual but definitely plausible.

hey Don.
From MHL:

Byron Bay Waverider Buoy
The Byron Bay waverider buoy recently went adrift and was recovered off Evans Head. The buoy will be redeployed as soon as sea and weather conditions are suitable.

Why suspicious Steve?
According to the MHL guys they get hit by boats a lot.
