Summer. How's it lookin?

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

Yeah pretty spectacular hey!!!
Just been looking at this again.
Ledge71 is right on the northern edge of that main swirl.
Hope he's OK. I know the southern side generally cops the worst of it but geez, it's a bigun.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Trev,

Winds around TC's in the southern hemi are usually strongest on the southern flank, hence if Ledge is on the NW flank, he wouldn't be coping it as much as on the underside. Still I agree, it would have been pretty windy for him yesterday and earlier today.

Surfing islands in the Western Province of the Solomons will be off tap over the next few days.

Yasi is moving damn fast and ascat passes keep missing her swell producing fetch for our swell window so we're relying completely on model predictions at the moment as opposed to real wind observations for calibration of the models.

Gonna be a tough one to forecast swell from.

i think....and i know shit about swellcasting

we are going get one or two days of large storm, messy surf, with strong onshores

one or two places will cope but be far from good and attract the masses

than it go pretty small and average again

it just moved too fast tho the swell window too produce anything like a solid all time groundswell

imo...and i hope i'm wrong

I want to save those images...they are simply spectacular.

Im trying not to be selfish and not think of one day of possibly great surf, I would prefer this cyclone just not to be. Its to big really to be hitting queensland after what the people have already been through, stuff that......... I hope everyone up there will be okay as I think this could really hurt after all the damage that has occured already, espically if this one travels far inland :|
no, Im not a surfer, Im just a garbage man".

You can do a screen print - set the picture to fill your screen (scroll down a bit) then use "Function" key plus "Print Screen" to capture the image and paste it into a word document.
OR

Take a digital camera photo of your screen.

There's probably some other way but I don't know it.

Your cousin would want to be concerned with losing his life though.
That's what no one wants to happen.
Listening to the radio this morning and one person from up there was saying even the people who are usually complacent are scared.
Screw the waves we get off it. I'd rather not have it exist as well.

I agree generally digger, but this thing was always coming ashore, and it is coming in around about the best possible place in terms of population centres.

This was progged a week ago as heading straight for Brisbane. There would have been hardly anything left of Brisbane if it had. It has gone much further north than the original course, and because it is so far north a lot of people will also be spared. Not saying I ain't concerned for those who are in the teeth of it now, just that this path is probably as good as it could have got.

It's progged to head inland, pretty much through northern and central qld and parking itself in central oz for a week. Huge areas of mainly desert will get absolutely drenched. Although central qld areas have had more than their fair share, we are talking about a lot of very sparsely populated farmland and desert and some mining towns. This is some of the least populated land on the planet outside Antarctica.

Not downplaying what's happening, just saying, if it had to come across it would be hard to find a better path for it.

It's not just the intensity (cat 5) it's the size of this thing.

On Swellnet Ben says he doesn't think he has ever seen one that big above 20S.

It's freaking huge.

I was just checking the Whitsundays web cam on Coastalwatch and saw 3 guys with shortboards clambering down the rockwall to go surfing.

It looks like it is starting to light up down this way, but the swells keep coming mid-week!
