What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

Mini-Cyclone hits Lennox Head 2/6/10

Post by Shari » Thu Jun 03, 2010 8:19 am

Hey, just heard this terrible breaking news: that a mini-cyclone hit about 8am or just before, that some folks might be missing from the caravan park, that the bakery is down, that the caravan park is quite effected, that there is an emergency response team set up there. Does anyone know anything from up there??? Hope no one hurt.

I was on my way to work and saw it happen in front of my eyes! Totally devestated part of the town. Started as a water spout that came onshore and hit house after house and then the caravan park. Roofs were torn off and thrown onto other houses and powerlines, timber speared through other houses and trees shreaded and all this about 200m in front of me. Don't mind saying it scared the shiit out of me. Friends house was totalled and others unroofed. Got some photos but don't know how to post. watch the news tonight

This would be the bomb low that Nick forecast last Thursday, I'm guessing...
Nick Carroll wrote:Another low will crystallise later in the week, north of Pt Macquarie, and blow it off the fcuken map. Serious impact at spots south of there from the ENE.

Anyone else wanna make an a priori call........imagine the satisfaction of getting it right.
Doubt there's much satisfaction.
Hats off to Nick, hearts out to the Lennox region.
some aftermath footage

and it looks like more of the same on the way, plus hail.

anyone read the Colin Thiele novel Blue Fin? about the Port Lincoln tuna fleet getting wiped out by waterspouts. was one of my favourites as a youngster.

hope everyone comes out the other side okay.

No satisfaction...but it's often the way that someone pays a price for a swell event.

Two weeks ago it was five rock fishermen. This week -- in a tangential sorta way -- it's the Lennox community.

Sunday-Monday-Tuesday should see the swell in this low's wake as it shifts offshore and intensifies. Could be the swell of the winter. Hope some of the homeowners are surfers and get a kick out of it in return.

Unfortunatly Nick, the waterspout was so strong before it made landfall, that it's rearanged all the rocks at the point and it will probably never break again anywhere near as good as it used to. Bugger!

Yeah, what a touch of ironey, we will all have to become highway surfers or move to somewhere like Neilson Park. Well I suppose if you live by the sword you have to die by the sword.
