"Pop Outs"
Its interesting to see some guys describe Surtech, Salomon and Bic boards as 'Pop Outs ' but refer to well known brand boards by other terms. Like all the of the rack boards are really 'Pop Outs" as well arent they ? Like they are shaped en mass by either machine or hand, then glassed in bulk and so...

With Loctite the best thing to do ( I think ) is to go onto their website or ring them and ask about the stuff but remember to tell them you are gluing to polyethylene or polypropylene .These are around the hardest plastics to glue to as they are so chemically inert. our local hardwre store should b...

If you do decide to use 'superglue ' I reccomend that you use a good brand such as Loctite . I know they have a grade which when used with a suitable primer - also supplied by them, will bond quite well to polypropylene or polyethylene .Youi have to use the primer or no sticker whatever.Since this gr...

with the Carbon and polyester laminate you probably would get just a little stronger than S glass /polyester laminate. With a high grade epoxy yu will get a 3- 4 times stronger lamination ,BUT only stronger in tension . Carbon has about 1/2 the strength of S glass in compression and around 1/3 the i...

Then, if you couldnt get the blank maker to put the extra stingers in ,perhaps your shaper could - before he started shaping ... Year back I saw a Mark Rabiddge Mal that had "rail stingers in it - stringers around 6 inches from the rails tha wre bent to follow the shape of the rails - looked superb ...

With the theory of the extra glass over the stringer cresting a I beam effect, I woukld agree but methinks that the glass would need to be bonded directly to the stringer to be an effective beam .Using kevlar on the rails should help a lot in ding resistance,But my experience is that kevlar has to b...

I agree wholeheartedly with the last couple of comments .With a off the rack board yu really dont know what your getting. As for the foam being soft, I read somewhere that Shane Steadman made boards in the 70s by using blanks that were foamed to the exact finished shape ,then glassed .if so then the...

With rails its true that thi is where the most foam is removed but you have to also remember that around the rails ,nose and tail you have an overlap of glass where the glass from the top and bottom go right around the rails to the other side and so you get a double thickness of glass in this region...

I agree with the idea that you can do everything right and still get dents - like quality resin and glass ,good blank and it still dents .One thing perhaps has been missed here is the weight of the rider and how he duck dives and or moves on the board. I have a friend who has dented every board he h...

Me thinks that epoxy will dent just as easy as polyester if it is the same thickness, using the same glass cloth, as it is no stiffer than polyester The thing is , unless its a bad quality epoxy , it shouldnt crack as easily if dented .Like you get a poly board and give it a whack - you usually get ...

Im sure you have seen a tuflite pop - their not indistructbile but are sure more ding /dent resistant than your ordinary polyester board . As for getting a custom tuflite board theres just no way as far as i can see - Tuflite are into volume production and a custom shape would require new moulds - b...

The tuflite boards should be dent resitant ! The sandwich construction technique where you have 2 layers of glass separated by 3mm of PVC foam gives a huge increase in surface stiffness and thus resistance to denting . Like somewhere between 30 to 40 times the stiffness of two layers of glass with j...

You probably have a board thats been glassed , or both shaped and glassed, "offshore " if so it would be glassed using low cost low quality polyester resin and glass sourced from China or India . I bought some of these resins and glass in from "offshore " and the resin was a lot softer than usual bu...

High density foams
Does anyone have any opinions on whether using a higher density foam in a board really does contribute more strenght to a board - like would it take a lot more to snap one than a regular density board ? interested to hear opinions on this - I had a lecture on this topic the other day from a well kno...

I also have a surftech that I bought in the US - yes its lighter and more bouyant, turns better than most Ive ridden BUT I would agree some observations that the boards are not as tough as the makers say Mine split open at the front after hitting sand in a wipeout breaking both layers of glass, the ...
