Re: post your modern day sickness
But with Slater. Shearer made a reference to having a different mindset, draw different lines on a quad etc ... You know Kelly way better then me. Does he bring a different mindset to his quad surfing, or does he ride the quads to enhance what he already did on a thruster? I think you are missing t...

Re: post your modern day sickness
don't take this the wrong way Braithy but it sounds to me like your surfing mindset is pretty firmly locked into a certain way of being and approaching the wave, with a proscribed range of turn angles ......IE you will pretty much try and surf every board according to the way you ride a HPS. Success...

That massive amount of cold dry air coming off the eurasian land mass is one of the key drivers of the cross equatorial monsoonal flow.

What do you mean "flow".Braithy wrote: I struggle to get any kind of flow happening.
What happens for instance when you ride a single fin with full rails?

Re: post your modern day sickness
I do want to go up and surf shearer's pointbreak on it but, that sort of wave would be sick on the flexy I reckon. Yeah, I would think so too. I had that MItchell Rae flex-tail that went so good at G-land and Bali (hey Black Duck you surfed it yet?) but I could never really come to grips with it at...

Re: five cyclones this summer for qld...if u believe it
Just the fact of the strong high in the Tasman by end of this week is heartening. also strengthening caucasian/siberian high suggests the next monsoonal surge. MJO signal moving through phase 2. K, you don't want tropical activity while you are there. You want frontal activity in the Tasman and ligh...

Re: post your modern day sickness
Steve: So how does the total volume you're riding now compare to the total volume you were riding when your learnt your skills? Way lower. I learnt on high vol single fins. But I will say that volume is highly fashion dependent. My favourite surfing of all time is Curren riding longer and higher vo...

Re: post your modern day sickness
I'd guess that those like Shearer, and probably most on here, who have recently converted to higher volume boards (mainly quads from the posts) already had a solid foundation of ability that was for the most part developed on thrusters. Well actually, I've reduced volume for the most part in the la...

Re: post your modern day sickness
Nup. I was referring to Braithys comment that pros or ex Pros don't ride quads etc etc as everyday performance boards. Of course there are aspects of pro surfing design that can be utilised by rec surfers but by and large Pro surfing by it's very nature is a conservative force in surfboard design. P...

Re: post your modern day sickness
I think it's a big mistake to conflate the needs of Pros paid to surf and those of recreational surfers (probably one of the biggest, most pervasive and perniciuous myths foisted on the surfing public by surf mags btw). Super-skilled surfers in top shape have very different equipment needs to joe bl...

I see some very encouraging signs that our next active phase in the tropics is imminent.

Re: post your modern day sickness
For every Curren & Slater you show me, I can show you a retired pro like Egan, Occy, or Ross Williams doing the exact same thing. Bad example. The best surfing I saw down at Bells was Occy riding a kingpin quad, which lies outside your HPS paradigm. Egan has been all over quads as well. To say high...

Re: post your modern day sickness
No fishes, retro fishes, quads, bonzers or twinzers fit the profile. You're off your trolley Braithy. I accept your argument about Pro surfing but there's so much more hi-perf surfing going on outside the tour on all kinds of equipment. Exhibit A : Dan Thomsons radical planing hulls are way outside...

Re: post your modern day sickness
Not by design, just found the round-tail McKee quads to do what a thruster does but better.
First thruster in the quiv is a 6'9" Gunter shaped round pin,,,,that went great at Chopes and the Point.

Sounds like a good excuse for a roadtrip Murrum.
I've got a lady whose promising me some anconas which she reckons will blow me away so I'm keen to honour that committment.
Would love to get an Ancona rooster.
Amazing birds.
