Well Natey I'm pretty awake to all that...however, I've also walked into K-Mart on several occasions and busted their line (Pipeline, of all names) selling T-shirts with prints of very well known surfers in photographs taken by professional photographers who happen to be colleagues of mine...being u...

Well Nappy it's not unheard of in Hawaii. The lip threw faster than I thought it would -- faster even than on a normal heavy Hawaiian wave -- and hit me just when I was set in the middle of a fairly solid bottom turn. If you haven't experienced fresh swell Hawaiian power before you'll find it hard t...

I think it's hard to compare the circumstances. South Africa is a relatively small surfing community in which industry turf battles are magnified, and no similar situation -- where a big el cheapo clothing chain is going directly head to head in sponsorship efforts against the core surf companies --...

It's a good point Nick. Considering where technology is these days, why don't they have a couple of vantage points covered by cameras, while they judge from in front? Another question Nick. How much time elapses from the time the wave is ridden to the time the score is given. Do judges pride themse...

Coulda been hey. The angle of impact was just right for the lower leg to absorb and distribute the force, otherwise I reckon my knee would be utter Cactus right now. Might in that case have broken the femur, or done what some motocross riders do instead of this injury -- drive the fibula straight up...

wave for wave coverage of the final . judge for yourself .. i reckon andy's left was better than his right. from the side on angle you see him bouncing off the shockwave in the pit. I agree. It should have been the 10. I was watching from the back angle where you can see the critical nature of the ...

ps i reckon andy irons is a tool, he loves himself. Couldn't agree more, Lankster. Blue Horizon was is testiment to how much of a f.uck the guy is..... sore looser and a bad winner. Spewin' he bumped Fanning down in the overal rankings. I hope fanning burns him next year. You should not take Blue H...

re. the picture at the top...can someone tell me what that bloke who is about to cop it on the head is doing? he seems rather elevated.... He's standing on his board, using it to get some elevation before diving. He'll probably dive flat -- at Pipe in that situation you wanna stay pretty high and l...

Gayer than Tom Cruise's underwear scene in Risky Business. I would however encourage the water iPod on the grounds that it will cause the goober wearing it to be distracted from the arrival of waves. Of course said goober, being unable to hear his fellow humans, also runs the risk of dropping in on ...

There's no priority operating at Pipe this year, it's all four-man heats. And there are hardly any perfect waves going unridden. The waves you're watching on the webcast my look perfect, but they're often warbled and very difficult or dangerous. It's unwise to judge a nth shore wave with a Sydney eye.

7'0". Beautiful boards, like mad said, the 7'0" pintail you ride here in 6-8' surf is a magic thing, useless anywhere in Oz, but essential here. Promo! Go look at the ASL site for a live interview with the Hogdog. pigchampion, I agree about Hedgey's earlier frantic efforts but I think that wave sett...

It's really f**ken good being here today and watching for real. A perfect Hawaiian day, beautiful tradewinds, clean 8-foot swell. Best surf of the season so far. A LOT of people here, enjoying the day, very good vibe. Being here I think the Usual Suspects have the edge on the pack, AI, Kelly, Parko,...
