Re: Where did you surf today ?

I took a flex. The kids were in childcare and the car had new shocks. So I went hunting because the Bra has shit banks. Got to Newport. Drove back and settled on a not too bad looking bank at the south end of Bungan. Fark me, it's been a long time since I did that walk. I faffed around so long looki...

Re: The Floods

Dear Lard Lad and Still Here, Years ago, David Suzuki wrote a book, with Holly Dressel, called Good News for a Change . He made the point that we live in a biosphere and that the resources within that biosphere are finite. Yet, economists only ever speak of growth. Well, I hate to burst your bubble,...

Re: Coastalwatch webcam upgrade to Flash

Load up the page even though you'll only get the big black box. Then right click and select settings - not global settings. At the bottom of the box you'll see 5 tabs - the first is the display tab. You should see the Enable hardware acceleration checkbox - uncheck it. You won't find the settings un...

Re: Surfing keen to learn

Surfing's a bit like learning a language - the younger you are, the easier, and more naturally, it comes. I learnt as a kid, so don't really remember the process. As a kid, you're not goal focused; you're simply in the moment and have as much fun failing as succeeding. As an adult, you see people li...

Got it!

Went into Flash settings and, under the Display tab, unchecked the Enable hardware acceleration checkbox.

Re: Coastalwatch webcam upgrade to Flash

Uninstalled Flash and then reinstalled - no luck.

It's weird, because it works on my computer at work which has older version of everything. It's also a Mac.

Re: Stoked & Broke Surf Movie

This kind of reminds me of the argument around the band Wolfmother. People of my generation accuse them of ripping off Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Each successive generation probably struggles with originality. It's perfectly legitimate to find originality in the reworking of old stuff and introdu...

Re: Malaysia in January

Thanks, Ronnie.

I've been reading some stuff on Cherating. It looks like it gets a bit of wind swell November through March, but nothing spectacular.

We're also thinking that our best bet would be to catch a cheap Air Asia flight somewhere else. Any suggestions along these lines are also welcome.

Malaysia in January

A mate just won two tickets to Malaysia and has asked me to go with him. The only opportunity to use them is in January, which I understand is not a great time for surf in that part of the world. If anyone can steer me in the right direction in terms of waves, I'd really appreciate it. Any other tip...

Re: Ask Carroll

Thanks for being so candid. I was eighteen when I attended my mother's funeral. At that age, I misunderstood the laughter at the wake. I grabbed my board and snuck off. It was July and a still, grey day when I paddled out at No Man's. There was no one out, or that's my memory. It's good like that, t...
