Re: Fiji 2014

Pity big Daz Eastlake (channel 9 personality) isn't with us anymore, he'd show 'em how its done. Just imagine in a big booming aussie accented voice yelling " Oh Sally's made the drop HACKS it off the top"... RIP Daz. Did you ever hear him call the weight lifting at the Olympics, classic they had to...

Re: surfboard agency boards

I suppose my main question is, what is the biaxial glass & epoxy like is it "really" stronger & lighter than a normal layup. You would think that if McCoy & the other shapers have had their input into the machining of the blanks they are happy with the results. I gotta admit,in Mccoys case, I wouldn...

Thruster as a twinfin

Can a board designed as a thruster be used, successfully,as a twinni + trailer (MRtfx). Would the fin boxes (fcs/futures) be in the correct position, toe & cant ? Or does the board need to be specifically designed as a twinni.

Re: Chasing the dragon

Its only been the last couple of years that when I hear "Lets go overseas for a holiday" from the dragon lady that I havn't broken out into a sweat, started taking anti depressants hitting the grog & all sorts if other crazy shit, because I know there will be no surf where she wants to go. I suppose...

Re: The phone call you do not want

A representative from Narra SLSC rang the family and told them how Andrew was spotted in the water and how they dealt with it. Much, much to the relief of the family and friends. It does appear at this stage that there were no obvious marks/contusions to suggest that he hit or was hit by his board or...

Re: The phone call you do not want

Thanks guys, yeah we picked up that report/story in the various papers which has helped a lot. I/we (friends) are just trying to piece together what happened. We are all in shock over this incident, and i would never, ever denigrate the people who tirelessly give their time and put their lives at ris...

Re: The phone call you do not want

Again, thanks guys. At this stage no reports, like a lot of us he was surfing by himself and things are pretty muddled at the moment. Another mate who's into surf photography has contacted someone within the surf photography community and they believe they actually know the person or someone who was...

The phone call you do not want

I got "that" phone call today about 4pm Sydney time informing me that my mate 50yo died in the surf at Sth Narrabeen today. At this stage it looks like a heart attack, no physical injuries obvious. I'm absolutely numb and shattered, I just returned from 5 weeks overseas, not surfing, on friday and w...

Re: Ask Carroll

Thanks for a great read (fading obsessions)Nick made me review my 50yr romance with surfing. This from Swaylocks "surfers over 50" Here's a few quotes the over-50 crowd might relate to: a surfer never quits surfing, even when he can no longer paddle out. Back when he could still make the short trek u...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

You're absolutely right Beany, after 50 every 5 yrs another wheel falls off.Turned 60 last yr and I can't believe how much harder, than when I was 50, it is to stay "surf fit" I get to the gym do spin classes, weights classes, yoga, laps at the pool and its still getting harder to pop up mainly, gives...

Re: Anyone ridden a McTavish SUMO?

Cuttle, Thanks for that I've been considering getting an addvance but think I'll put that on hold for now.I did set the scorpion up as a quad but as usual surf went to crap & hasn't changes since, now been a month since any decent surf here in Sydney. I've goth the quads that came with the scorpion ...

Re: Anyone ridden a McTavish SUMO?

Cuttle, Have had a 7'4" scorpion for a short while and been riding it as a 2+1 am really surprised. As you said no corkiness, stable on takeoff & for the surf i've had it in turns on a dime, havn't had a chance to try a cheater 5 or noseride it due to lousy surf. I think you said in another post you...

Thought I'd play catchup with Grant, what a story. If you don't know check his site.He has had spinal disk replacement, if I understand it correctly & I prob don't, & been out of action, for couple of months & prob a few more. Good news is that he'll (he thinks) be back shaping end of Feb 2013 & the...
