Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

I would like to be able to say that the McCoy riders group is a scintillating collection of original and outspoken surfers enjoying the unique capabilities of Geoff's unique designs... but in reality its usually pretty pedestrian. What else could you expect when everyone is in agreement?

Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

I'd love to see someone who was really good ride a single fin zot in the WSL.

My guess is that they would be out performed in all aspects of modern surfing. But, you never know, there might be some surprises.

Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

A few paragraphs would help. As I've said, for me they go better as a quad. I'll continue to try them as a gullwing single every now and then, and I will admit they go faster that way, but I just can't find any rhythm and control with the gullwing. I pick up my 7' zot tomorrow. It took a while to ha...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

About right I reckon Cranked Haha, I'm usually in that second category, rarely in the top 10%, but... since swapping to McCoys I think I've more than doubled my chances of being in the top 10%*, not by ability but by board choice.... loving it! *Not an absolute ability measure, its just the actual ...

Top 10% of the surfers at a break get 50% of the waves, next best 40% get 40%, bottom 50% get 10%

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Isn't it something like a woman for marriage, a boy for pleasure and a goat for necessity? Help me out here, The Mighty Sunbird, your 'missus' is from that neck of the woods, right? A Melon for Ecstasy is a 1971 novel written by John Fortune and John Wells. The title is derived from a fictional Tur...

Re: Ears

Buy one of these at your local chemist and gently flush out your ear with clean warm water every few months or whenever needed. I've been doing it for decades.

Re: Geoff McCoy Surfboards Collectors Corner

Funnily enough original Zaps aren't that enjoyable to ride. So maybe a modern version is a good idea. Because of the 3" of foam when you paddled for a wave it rotataed on the surface, yawing from side to side. Because of the thick rails and wide tail it never wanted to get on a rail, so the best yo...

Re: J-Bay Pro 2017

I very much doubt that....I don't think human beings will turn out to be that accommodating of such a high level of predation. They seem very accommodating at the moment. Sure there'll be a bit of kerfuffle as the fatality rates go up but then there will be a huge rally of 60,000 people in Byron po...

Re: J-Bay Pro 2017

Yep, just an answer to a sudden question that entered my mind. And in roughly perusing the data it seemed that fatalities in SA were fairly consistent over recent decades but in oz there were very few 20-40 years ago but we've quickly caught up. Seems reasonable that the double whammy of protecting ...

Fatal shark attacks in SA from 2000 are about one a year, not too different from Oz

Re: Modern Planing hulls

Would Kelly's current boards be considered to be MPHs and is this the reason his surfing has lost its edge, that is the flat tail rocker takes away from the smooth transition and flow of maneuvers and promotes a shorter, jerky style (read lack of)?

Re: Midlengths

Think I'm gonna get a 7'4 nugget today to complete my McCoy quiver: 6'1, 6'8, 7', 7'4. Good to go for anything from ankle to well over double overhead. Also have a more conventional quiver 6'5, 6'6, 7', 7'5 and a 9'2 mal I haven't ridden yet. I wonder how long it will be before I recognize a deficie...

McCoys are a hotbed of controversy and intrigue.
Honestly, ya gotta love the McCoy trainwrecks.

Its always such a short time between the start of a McCoy thread and the inevitable collision of personalities.

Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

You're digging up skeletons from the McCoy wars. There's a book in there somewhere, one suitable only for diehard McCoy tragics. They'll sense this thread like a zombie senses warm human blood.
