It just gives a useable bracket for any given design.
But yeah, as far as flotation goes, becomes less crucial (as you size up) until you get to big wave guns, where the bracket becomes important again.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
As an over-arching measure of displacement and thus how well the board will float you volume is one of the handiest measurements there is for deciding on if a board of any combination of other design principles will work or not.
That is why it has become so ubiquitous- because it's so fcuking useful.

I've had some really fun surfs at D-bah and I've had some absolute nightmares.

OK, can we agree with this proposition.
The two largest surf forecasting websites on the planet are using "surfer" feet as their metric for calling surf?
Foamy?

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
So if Surfline itself ... uses the commonly used method, can we at least accept it"s the commonly used method? They don't (by your definition). If you click on foamy's link he was (surprisingly) right. Foamy posted up a link on the Surfline website. Today, Surfline called the surf at Sunset Beach w...

Fine.
Just telling you how Surfline called DOH Sunset today.
4-6ft.
So if Surfline itself (and Swellnet) uses the commonly used method, can we at least accept it"s the commonly used method?

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
On the Surfline website you can select either face height or traditional (1/2 of face height) as your preferred wave scale. The default in Australia and NZ is traditional (1/2 of face height). Face height is the default in the rest of the world. Default in the rest of the world? Hawaii is the rest ...

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Looks like even Surfline have abandoned their own scale.
They are calling Sunset 4-5ft 2OH.
According to their OG scale 2OH should be 10ft.
2OH + should be 10-12ft.
We are done here gentlemen.
