Re: Ask Carroll

Do you think the rusty chook on top of Kirra Hill is the ugliest public sculpture in Australia?
Its always looked like a retarded third reich emblem to me.
Hope MPs Sculpture is a good one.
Thats the trouble with public sculpture, you have to live with it.

Re: Crowds.

I was in Bali a year ago and got plenty of okay waves at Serangan. Even a few small ones at Keramas. Plus some chunky ones at Hyatt Reef...probably a bit too chunky actually. Serangan the two of us had a peak to ourselves for quite a while. I'm not talking epic death pits here just fun waves that mo...

Re: Crowds.

....um, because it picks up east and north swell and its offshore in a southerly? Had a great surf at the Pass a couple of years ago on my fish. Really crowded, little, hassly. Paddled out thinking the worst then after a frustrating start noticed a few boogers taking off on the outside rock and pull...

Re: clouds

Just checked up on cloud types and you are 100 percent right Steve.
I always thought stratus were high level but they are in fact those drifting low level clouds. A bit like smoke drifting.

Re: Your Top 5 Favourite Surfers of All Time!

Depends what your running from. My beach change work has evolved into the art it is from the challenge of dodging motorists trying to get around the car waiting for your spot. The term grace under pressure is often used. Similar to lopezs calm stalling under the threatening lip of pipeline my casual...

Re: Japanese Whaling

3-) I hadn't read the first page of this thread :D Go Al. I have a bit of a thing about harpooning highly intelligent marine mammals in general. Even wonder about octopus sometimes but that's a grey area since they taste good and they are not mammals. Generally don't think eating anything with a bra...

Re: Japanese Whaling

It would also be more of an equivalent if we motored up past Japan and started harpooning sharks in their backyard.

As a massive generalization a lot of Japanese have short stocky legs and long upper bodies.

Re: Your Top 5 Favourite Surfers of All Time!

I'll get really adventurous and throw the word recreation into the mix. Sport always has the connotation of rules and competition to me. Of course what we are really talking about is a scale rather than an is or isn't scenario. Everyone's involvement and motivation sits somewhere on the scale betwee...

thats a result of decaying frontal systems or low pressure encountering stable high pressure.
I thought mares tails were cumuli stratus.
The mackerel sky type thing is cumuli cirrus or cirrus.
The cumulus part is the fluffy bit.

Re: Sri Lanka or Taiwan in April

That time of year is the Aragan Bay side which is a far superior wave than Hikkadua by all accounts. Check it out in Sprout if you have a copy. Hikkadua was fun when I went there in February many years ago. Its a pretty soft peak with the right breaking into the reef so it holds the wave power bette...
