I think NC has it right but also agree that the same definition fits a "Wanker" which is a much more Australian term. A word of caution though, someone can look like a Kook (Wanker) for a variety of reasons but not necessarily be one. About 3 weeks ago I was in Qld and paddled out at the Alley (Curr...

[quote="Frin"]This is a little long - but worthwhile. It was written by former Liberal PM Malcolm Fraser, and published in at www.crikey.com.au today: damage that we should not forget. [quote] Some people believe the Hicks saga is over. Some people believe the sentence was too light because he was a...

Seems like there is a lot of hearsay on both sides here. Those of you who are anti what has happened to Hicks should remember your "quotes" have no more concrete basis than the stories about torture in Guantonomo Bay. I'm not prepared to swear to the facts or otherwise on either side. But everyone s...

One time when he SHOULD NOT have duck dived! Out at the Alley, Currumbin a few years ago and a young kid duck dived in front of an approaching Mal rider who was on the nose and crouched and pretty well covered up. Literally scalped him! Very messy. We got him to hospital via ambulance and the mal ri...

I'm a business analyst in the operating theatres at Wellington Hospital, NZ. Formerly a business / IT consultant, and formerly a Dee Why resident - missing those waves and that beach every damned day! I can't even begin to imagine what a "Business Analyst" does in an operating theatre......? Then a...

I've always loved the early. Surfing is more than just catching a wave. It's the drive to the beach before dawn, walking out to the viewing spot and straining your eyes to see the line up and then getting kitted up and into the water as the first stirrings of light bleach the eastern horizon. Add li...

Sorry the quoting didn't work out on the above post. Meant to be a shown as part of Fong's last entry with my commnents at the bottom.
Also "YOUR" is possessive. It should be "You're" as in short for "You are" a surfer etc.

Fong, your thinking is warped. A surfer is a surfer is a surfer. If he surfs, all sorts of things set his mind off. As many other correspondents to this topic have pointed out, the shape of a headland from the air, even a wake on a river bank from a passing boat will do it for me. Doesn't matter whe...

I love Singapore Airlines. Great service, neat hosties and they were one of the first to have personal TV screens in the back of every seat. Only one problem with that was the kid who sat behind me from Singapore to London playing the computer games all the way. Every time he got bombed/died? he thr...

Ah! The rock hopping blues. Like some of the previous respondents I have fallen foul of Lennox. Grew up on the Goldie and first surfed it about 1966 after seeing it pumping during a school excursion in '64. After many years out of the water I fronted up there on a 4-6' day in the early 90's. Jumped ...
