Re: Coastalwatch Plus

Sorry, i didnt see that thread. I just tried to click in today to have a look at the 7 day graph and they asked me for money. I spat my hot tea over my lap top and started laughing. I checked my calender and we are nowhere near the first of April. http://forum.realsurf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t...

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

Not really, with the central riding position which is an integral part of my pintailed designs the length of nose in front of the rider is greatly reduced compared with a tail riding board which pivots from an aft riding position. Swing 'weight' is really a combination of mass amd lever arm length....

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

That wasn't so hard, was it? Not withstanding the design allowing you to, surely there must be some disadvantages of the extra length in terms of turning radius and swing weight? Recognising of course that length and weight are not the same thing... I know that you've said before the nose generates ...

there's a little PM symbol below a poster's name in a thread, or go into User Control Panel up the top and navigate through.

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

Okay, I'll ask my question again.
What is the advantage of the length of your boards, Roy?

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd like you to try and answer it in a way that will actually improve my understanding, rather than just satisfy your need to be obtuse.

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

Roy, do you ever get the feeling that your boards are about 3 feet too long? I can see some merit in some of your design ideas, but why do they have to be so long? Seems that you could get much of the same benefit from a heavy 8 or 9 footer that you get from a 13 footer. Weight and length are not t...

Not super surf but it's nice to just be able to get wet daily and catch a few waves.

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

I've even tried to wear a hat in the surf for protection from the sun during middle of the day sessions. Even find them uncomfortable so generally don't. Same, got an apparently good one, but it was shit to duck-dive in. I do wear a hood in winter though. Don't like it as gives disengaged feeling, ...

Was just a reference to your comment Are you for real? You joined RS in 2006 and still you need such advice. Unless you're very very young, you have not learned enough and should consider alternative recreational pursuits. Thought kicking someone out of an entire recreational activity was a bit hars...

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

I got a surf helmet (Gath) when I went to Tonga. But I realised that: They only provide protection from cuts, not from impacts, apart from spreading the force a bit. There's very little padding in them. Incorrect they provide a huge increase in impact protection. Not according to Gath they don't. F...

Re: Surf school surfers

Gotta be due to wetsuits and more flexible lifestyles to some extent.
Have to say, having recently been out at Jan Juc and 13th Beach, there were more bodies in the water than on most beaches on the Gold Coast. And it was 15 degrees or so in the water, compared to 21. Kind of did my head in.
