My first trip to the tropics was about 10 years ago and a real eye opener to board design. Did three weeks in Indo and then a week in the Maldives. Had previously been beachbreaks with the occasional reef on the big days before the trip so my boards were designed around those conditions. The waves a...

Hitting swimmers

I had a fun early surf this morning but where I was surfing is normally where the flags would be during the day. Towards 6.30 it was getting crowded with swimmers who were placed halfway down the line and weren't keen to move even when you were headed straight for them. I tend not to deviate my chos...

Noosa

I'm heading off for a couple of weeks up Noosa way in a month's time. Tossing up whether to take a mal and a shorty or just one or the other. Has anyone had any experience with longboards and Virgin? Is it easier just to take the shorty and hire a mal on the small days?

Auckland

An option has come up to move to Auckland for a 12 month contract. Checked spots on wannasurf but wondering what the life of the Kiwi surfer is like? Are the spots close enough for before and after work sessions if I'm working in the city? Or is it a weekend only gig? Any info would be helpful.

About 10 years ago I stood in the carpark and saw a hollow wave breaking on the other side of the bay once. Thought I was better than I was, took the 15 minute paddle over. Paddled into a bomb set, got to my feet and got pitched onto reef about one foot under the water. Popped up in a fair bit of pa...

Cheers for all the advice guys. The big move is now on and I'll be over on that side of the country in the first week of September. Northern Beaches is the go for living. Looking forward to having a bash at Dee Why Point, the Bower or Queenscliff Bombie on the first decent swell.

North West of WA has some awesome waves. When wayback says take supplies, take absolutely everything you need... food, water, medical kit, tent, fishing rods, footy etc.. everything. The waves up Gnarloo way shouldn't be taken lightly however as your a long long bumpy ride from help if anything happ...

Last question I need answered. I have been looking around on the various websites for rentals and obviously have my limits. Is there generally a bit of negotiation room in the prices like there is in other cities ie Perth & Melbourne? Or is there such demand that its a landlords market?

Going to the Southern Ocean in the middle of winter, prepare to be colder than you've ever been before. If you get it with offshores you'll have the time of your life. I did the Vicco surf trip a few years back, awesome big & clean surf although that was in May although the main memory of how fricke...

I know what you mean Spikey Steve about the crowds being nothing compared to the Point. Did a 5 week stint in Sydney, had to live in the city, in January and ventured to Manly on a Saturday morning expecting carnage in the water. Whilst it was fairly flat, the banks were still great and rides were h...

I also like the idea of getting a boat to work. Kinda makes the thought of working in the city a little more bearable.

Cheers for that zzz, I'd be part of the suit & tie brigade heading into the guts of the city. What your saying pretty much confirms what I'm thinking about the Northern Beaches area. After being able to walk to the beach for a surf, I don't think I could ever move farther than walking distance. Look...

I fully expect Sydney rent to be about double what Perth is, however the transfer is a big promotion so I'm going to be adquately covered as far as cash goes. What I'm chasing though is which suburbs are good to leave in whether it be Manly past Queenscliff etc or is it better to go the beaches sout...

The big move

Due to a possible transfer with work, might have to do the big move from the west coast to work in Sydney. Having only been there a few times and surfs in Sydney limited to Manly & Bondi, wondering where the best place to live is where I don't have to pay phenomenal rent. Currently live about 5 stre...

If its just you or you and some guys, go to Pasta's otherwise if you have the missus go to Lohi's. From a surf point of view, I prefer Pasta's as you can look at the wave and still see SUltans doing its thing. I agree with wayback about Honky's, it can start on the outside as a 2 -3 footer and by th...
