Re: Fin Construction

I can't tell the difference riding. But I can feel the difference in flex pushing at tip of the fin when its mounted on the board. But some of the epoxy fins have a thicker foil and these can be stiffer than a skinny foiled glass fin. I believe all the fcs "plastic" fins are epoxy and they are much ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I don't think 3.5 million can mean 3.5 million separate people. At best, it is 3.5 million unique devices. If you check the WSL site on your phone, then pop into the site on your work computer, then later on your Ipad, you would be counted as 3 unique viewers. To add to the multiplication, are thes...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

As a corollary, we could limit the surfers to one board. This would immediately improve the strength and longevity of surfboards and reduce toxic landfill by a million or so boards a year :-D-:

Re: Just general surfing stuff

There can be only one solution, its so obvious: set the dates for the tour and then go to where the surf is on that date for christs sake! Expensive? What's the cost of the duds and half duds atm. And its not just the monetary cost of an event but the damage to the perception and acceptance of surf...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

You actually need approval* before you turn up and take over a beach. *approval usually involving state and local govt meetings, council votes, complex negotiations on the time and manner the contest can be run, contracts written and agreed to, fees and charges, etc. All individual, depending on th...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

You could have six comps: Australian, European, North American, South American, African and Pacific/Hawaiian, and start from a central base in each. Cut it down to the to top16. Maybe send just the surfers and videographers, everyone else stays at the base location. You can even change location duri...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

It's hard to do Fiji cheaply, or as cheaply as Bali, but I was shocked when i was at Cloudbreak how uncrowded it was and the lack of roosters/Brazzos/Euros......and I have to say, that made it an all around much more pleasant surf trip than Bali. I paid in advance for one boat ride a day as part of...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

Four of us flew to Fiji in 1983, we were going to get a boat to Kandavu. We hung around the docks for about 4 days trying, then went out to the local airfield and found a kiwi who agreed to take us in his 6 seater (including pilot) cesna: $100 each. Fcuking Banks was prepared for anything with an 8'...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

It is of interest though foamy, if I wanted to surf there twice a day for a month like I do on the bukit it would cost me a cool F$7,500, so I do appreciate the knowledge very much

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

I thought the exchange rate was much closer to 1:1 Me too. I see that kind of money as reasonable. Average daily wage is F$10 - 30 per day, there's room for a gigantic profit on F$250 for half a day; you could pay 20 fijians half their daily wage rate for the easiest job they are ever going to get....

Jet has hit the nail on the head, Devon Howard's beautiful carving surfing on good waves feels attainable. It makes you feel "yeah I can do that" (whether we do or not is highly debatable, subjective and irrelevant).
Its mainly the hull I reckon, that's what they do easily on waves like that.

Re: Midlengths

C Bucket review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzh181uTo4Y Lots of rolled V (belly in the reviewers terms, or a hull by another name) throughout with a big soft rail and lots of volume (hahaha, gotta tell Geoff McCoy about this, Christenson has been riding McCoys, I'll request concaves next time)....
